Don't Look Back v Save My Soul

Postby The Modernist » 03 Sep 2018, 14:44

Two absolute classics which I've always associated with each other for some reason, but which one would you choose if forced. Tough choice huh?

"Save My Soul" was new to me. And I really liked it.

But, yeah, I'm absolutely crazy about that Remains track.

It's a good one to discover -it'll become your new favourite record!

Two standards from the first two Nuggets boxes. Hard to go wrong with either one.

You always do that! 'oh they're both great!'

Make a stand!

I love them both but (unusually, for this genre) the Brit track is sharper and harder and more exciting.

I'd go for The Wimple Winch too, although needless to say they're both great. With 'Don't Look Back' it's mainly about the chorus whereas everything in 'Save My Soul' is memorable and that solo is quite mad! If you didn't know I think you'd peg the WW record as being American.

I meant 'you WOULD!' (agreement)

not 'YOU would!' (mild abuse)

Not everything needs to be ranked though. Sometimes both items in question are about equal. I like both songs but would take the Remains track if a gun was pointed at me.

"Save My Soul" is a classic, from that somewhat sinister opening riff to the crazy freakout in the chorus. I wonder if the bass player in that band went on to any lasting musical career.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

I like both records a lot but don’t have much to say.

They’re both great! I like this one just a hair better than the other!

Not really worth saying.

I like 'SMS' a lot - i mean, how could you not? - but 'DLB' takes this one for me. That driving beat in the verses as well as the explosive chorus hits me right where i live. The production is white-hot, and sounds like it could have been released in the late '70s.

There's something about the way the Remains track "digresses" in the middle that I absolutely love.
