Played the first album last night, good solid stuff.







Just finished playing Squawk which I preferred - it was more developed, particularly enjoyed the greater use of acoustic guitar and of the mellotron. Enjoyed what would have been side 2 of the album more than side 1, the last three tracks really blended well, with a standout song in Young is a Word.

Having had my appetite for Polish prog whetted by the often excellent SBB, am trying Budka Suflera's first album, Cień Wielkiej Góry.







Turns out to have some really good moments, indeed sections, but there were also several elements I didn't enjoy particularly some annoying moog sounds. Feel it might reveal more on further plays, but not as immediately pleasing as I've found SBB to be, especially their live work in the late 70's.

I had a bit of a Hogarth era Marillion session on Thursday.... this is the best of the bunch. Funny how for 20 years his voice irritated the hell out of me and I struggled to get through a full album. Then when FEAR came out it suddenly clicked and exploring the back catalogue became a pleasure.

I play a lot of music at work, quietly, unless there’s no-one else in. I tend not to play albums I know very well as they can become too much of a distraction. So there is a particular type of album that suits the environment quite well. Largely instrumental works well. Nothing too heavy. Long tracks that meander are good too.

SBB definitely tick boxes....
