Funhouse
Not a patch on the albums either side.
'Dirt' popped up yesterday and I've heard better jams by teenage bands who've been together a week.

Re: Funhouse
It isn't rubbish, and not appreciably worse than the debut, but it's a bit of a sludgefest.

It is fucking magnificent.
Mind you, it's not a patch on Yorick's Cock.

Re: Funhouse
'1970' and 'Loose' are ferocious beasts and as exciting as one of the most exciting bands ever ever got, but the rest? I'm kind of indifferent.
Stooges first three album song ranking?
1970
No Fun
Dog
Search and Destroy
Little Doll
Your Pretty Face
Loose
Gimme Danger
Not Right
Real Cool Time

The first side is as good as rock gets.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Eh - I like that one.
Similarly, the more concise "Ann" (from the debut) which sounds like the sort of thing you'd never be able to conjure once you'd made a few records.

Re: Funhouse
Fun House is pretty much the zenith of hard rock, innit? Monstrous riffs, a proper dirty groove, and Iggy's greatest vocal performance. The debut was pretty good, too, but Raw Power is lagging far behind.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Dave Alexander’s Funhouse groove can never be praised enough.

It is superb. A rock and roll peak.

I've always thought they were a little overrated, I prefer him solo. At their best they're great, but you only need about half a dozen tracks.

Pretty much in agreement with most of what's said here.

Re: Funhouse
I think Funhouse is wonderful,* and I think they got better with each album. And it's not inconceivable that Album #4 would have been better yet.
The Asheton brothers were born to be a rhythm section.
* I do wish they had dropped "L.A. Blues" and instead pursued "Lost In The Future" for more than one complete take. That would have been a great "end of Side 1" number (even Take 1 wouldn't have been bad), leaving "Dirt" for the perfect closer.

One of those albums where the weaker tracks don't really bother you because of how great the rest of it is.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Shouldn’t a post this dopey have gone under your GoogaMooga profile? I mean the album only has 2 or 3 of the greatest riffs ever.

And TV Eye and Down on the Street and that’s more than half the album. It’s one of the finest rock records ever and you know it. Or you should.
