Glasgow school of art

Postby Goat Boy » 18 Jun 2018, 08:44

A huge blow for the city and for Scotland.

There's talk that they may need to demolish the building with an estimated cost of 100 million to replace it.

Very dodgy that this is the second time it's happened.

It is, and I haven't heard any talk of 'suspicious circumstances'. People are just focused on how tragic this is - understandably. But how can this happen?

A right lot of pish being spoken about the building. Glasgow's Eiffel Tower, Pyramids etc. Most people in Glasgow probably have never set foot in the place.

I was meaning more the comparisons to world landmarks like the Eiffel Tower etc. The lovies have been out in force, greetin away about this huge loss. The O2 ABC is in part older than GSOA and through it's various changing formats has been a much bigger cultural force in general for Glasgow.

There are the tea rooms in the centre. The Museum for the Art Lover is in Belahouston Park which was built from CRM drawings after he died. There is also Scotland St School wjich he designed opposite Shields Rd subway station.

There are nice exhibits in the Kelvingrove too.

I dunno. It's a tragedy whatever way you look at it.

it is shame. But it's not quite the cultural icon that it's getting made out to be.

It was a world-class piece of architecture and CRMs masterpiece. Does that make it a cultural icon? I think it does.

It’s not a tourist attraction in the way that the Eiffel Tower is but I don’t think that is the point. Does Glasgow have any tourist attractions? :D

i never said it wasn't a cultural icon. Just that the hyperbole was getting a bit ridiculous.
