Probably, that's BCB all over isn't it? A really good pop song and their best moment

I have no particular investment in The Bangles, but if this is their best moment, their legacy is truly feeble.

This. Although certainly it doesn't completely lack "that sound" of AOtP, and that is a some small victory. Surely it could have been worse. (And "Manic Monday" probably is...)

Ok, i'll be honest and say i think this whole "betrayal" concept is bullshit. Not just in this case - coz as hatzt says, 'WLAE' actually does have some of the band's earlier signature sound still in it, especially the guitars - but pidgeon-holing an artist or group in general to grow and/or to achieve success in the way I as a fan want them too.

Yeah, but you know how it is when you love an artist. And I just adored the Bangles; was even in their official fan club. The sound on the early records just sounds so organic and pure and unlike what was being played on U.S. radio at the time. That radio ready sheen and use of synth drums starting around 1986 really didn't sit well with me. I remember actually returning a Soul Asylum album to the record store because I thought it was defective for having a gated snare sound!

I hear what you're saying; when Simple Minds went more commercial with their sound i was disappointed. I still wanted them to do songs like New Gold Dream or before. But i realised early on that that's usually just what happens with music and bands 95% of the time - hell, even Ramones changed a little in the '80s. And when you make your peace with that, you can still enjoy a great song when artists you love/loved make one. :P

Well, I think that confirms it. Would anyone argue against The Bangles' legacy being feeble?
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Depends on what you think of as their "legacy," I guess. If we mean the songs/videos that the most people might remember them for, then no, I couldn't be bothered trying to defend them - even the couple of songs I kinda like.

For me personally, their legacy is the first EP, first LP, and associated tracks (and bootlegs). And they are, on the whole, anything but feeble.

Nice, understated comeback around 2003, don't forget.

Especially welcome during a time when White Stripes and all that electronic dance shite was everywhere.

It's complete rubbish.
One of the worst things I've ever heard. It resides on the top of shit mountain along with We Built This City and that Rick Astley song.
Seriously you people make me sick sometimes.

Yeah, but I never expected much out of Rick Astley and Jefferson Starship had passed their shelf life long before We Built This City.

Every band or artist deserves a hit, but why did it have to be this one for the Bangles?
