Re: Modern wimmin wot sing
My first ever listen to any of these. In order of preference:
Nancy Elizabeth (I really liked this, would like to hear more)
Meg Baird
Merissa Nadler
Olaf Arnolds
Josephine Foster (the only one I really didn't care for)

I don't know any of the four.
Should this change?
Should this change?
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Yes, obviously. I'd also brush up on your maths.

That won me over.
I now feel obliged to investigate, sir.

Re: Modern wimmin wot sing
I have the Nancy Elizabeth and Marissa Nadler-albums, they are very good.
Think I might go for NE in the poll even though Meg Baird sounds very nice this morning.

I didn’t realise Meg Baird was the singer in Espers, I thought she sounded familiar. I have Espers III and it’s very good

I love them all but I'll say Olof for the voice and Nancy for the music.

Re: Old blokes with guitars - nothing new here.
Thanks for this, DF, it really brightened this rainy Sunday morning for me.
I'm a sucker for female voices - and I really like all five.
Nancy Elizabeth's multilayered approach stands out though, I'll have to check out her album.
Marissa Nadler got my other vote, but that's more a spur of the moment thing, it was also the only song I knew.
Meg Baird solo is nice too, if not quite as great as Espers in their best moments.
Josephine Arnald is deceptively simple, the song has some amazing instrumental flourishes - I think I'll get back to her too.
Olöf Arnalds, finally, won me over with her wonderfully pure timbre.
(... downloading Elizabeth's "Dancing" and her previous album as I write...)

All interesting all nice but I liked Nancy and Olof best - they seemed more unusual somehow.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

She's got the least pretty voice of the five, I suppose, and it's all sort of strummy - but I like it.
The complete album can be heard on YouTube.

Pleasant stuff, each with a whiff of prog and a Veet application away from a ‘tache.

That's very good.
