Genuinely terrible artwork concealing one of Killing Joke's better post-reunion albums. Still can't believe that it's the same artist responsible for those great early covers.

Jandek - Shadow of Leaves

'Difficult', miserablist solo Jandek from 2004, featuring Sterling's improvisation on a fretless detuned bass.

Oh I much prefer Jandek when he's in commercial funster mode. His cover of 'Sugar Sugar' is a joy.

This is where I should get my anorak on and point out that actually, Jandek only ever recorded one cover version, and that was of House of the Rising Sun, on his magnum opus Blue Corpse. Which is miserable, but has some technically competent musicians. But there's levels of difficulty, you know, you feel you've achieved something if you've managed to sit through a bunch of fretless bass improv and toneless wailing.

Anyway, I've moved on from this and am NOW PLAYING:

Thule - Wheel

Which is some obscure indie album from 1990. I really loved their second album, 321 Normal 2, but can't remember listening to this more than a couple of times.

This still sounds amazing today, just as futuristic and cool as when it first came out in the middle of the UK dubstep hype.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Great song, shame about the video

The 90s, what were they thinking.

Gimmicky cover aside, this is some really excellent stuff.

Woah, it's NME freebie cassette time.

Psst .. mate ... got some Heavy Stereo and Fluffy flexi-discs, if you're after some under-the-counter serious stuff...

What happened to his supposed renewed enthusiasm and proposed slew of releases?

This has no shame in wearings its influences on its sleeve, elbow patch, breast pocket, and every surface of its clothing but if you're a fan of gloomy and minimal 1980s synth-pop and post-punk then this will hit the spot.

GONG Camembert Electrique

Someone on FB, Griff, I think, was wearing a shirt with the design/logo from this record, which reminded me to revisit it. What a lot of absolute nonsense! EDIT: the second half isn’t quite as bad and even has fleeting nice bits.

YouTube rolled on to JOY DIVISION Unknown Pleasures, which is the perfect antidote to that Gong record.
