Actually I agree, but didn't think many people here would have heard them.
Agree about 'Dry The Rain' too - good stuff.

Just download the Three Eps.
If you dig that then Hot Shots 2
I will not be listening to Hot Shots 2.

I like that Life Without Buildings album even though, on paper, it's the kind of thing that normally makes my arse tighten

Well, if you say so. I didn't get much from "Three EPs".

Re: best Scottish indie band
I saw that list in the Grauniad and couldn't believe Orange Juice topped it and the Cocteaus didn't even make it. JAMC were classified as indie but after one single on Creation released their albums on WEA/Warner so i wouldn't call them 'indie' per se....but they are great albums.
Beta Band's Three EPs is one of the great albums but from there on in it went downhill....I like the first two B&S-albums and haven't really listened to the others, similar to Aztec Camera. PS I only dig for Screamadelica,
Never got into Josef K nor the Associates.
Cocteaux for the win. A completely, different and unique animal among the indie-fodder of its time.
Other bands that I would nominate were The Pastels, Life Without Buildings, the Close Lobsters and Camera Obscura.

Life without Buildings (never heard) and Mogwai (acquired taste) maybe, but The Fire Engines shit? Away and have a word with yourself, or go listen to some, easily the equal or better of any of the nine you listed. Win and Nectarine No. 9, which emerged from their ranks, were pretty tasty too.
While the Beta Band - the Scottish XTC. Dull, dull, dull
Oh, and the reason the Cocteaux were left out of the Guardian list - one-third English.

you can stick the whole lot up your bum - they're all shit
always in thrall to some greater, mostly Stateside act (Love, Byrds, Monkees) but cos it's always pissing down north of the border it's all washed-out, shoddy, third-rate
The Jesus and Mary Chain - were you conned too?
