Of the ones you're missing, i think Night Dreamer is the one must get, Yves. A beautiful album, and an essential part of Shorter's incredible 1964 run of music.

RIP to one the greatest. While for me his sound as not as instantly appealing as a Dexter Gordon or Sonny Rollins, he had the incredible ability to play both inside and outside depending on what the song needed. And his inventiveness as a writer was second to none - Blakey, Davis, Morgan, so many others reaped the rewards of his songwriting gifts, and his solo albums are never less than great.

Balboa! What a star. I miss him.

I don't know why I've never really dug into this stuff. My interests are spread so widely that I rarely have time to dig into more jazz in any meaningful way and the basics of Electric Miles/Coltrane/Charlie Parker/Thelonious Monk have more than enough to sustain me.

Sometimes a (new to me and recommended by Balboa, fange, six string, Kenji, or others) comparatively less canonical record will sink its hooks into me, but Wayne Shorter's solo records have evaded me. Maybe his tone is a little brittle to me or his playing is, I don't know, formal? I don't really know why.

Anyway, I'm digging into Night Dreamer this morning (not really, it's playing while I'm working) and it's doing the trick. I chose it because of McCoy Tyner, who is pretty fail-safe. Thanks for bumping this thread.
