...by Kenny "The Gambler" Rogers & the First Edition.

Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

I really enjoy it. I especially like the way it was used in The Big Lebowski.

I've played it in bands, I've cranked it up on the radio, I DJ it semi-frequently.

It sounds and feels like a million bucks. Our joke in the old "psychedelic/garage era revue" in which I played was that the song was "narc psych" (i.e. a simulation of psychedelic music written and recorded by narcotics officers looking to infiltrate a "scene"..."Why does Kenny keep leaving these parties right before we get busted?"...etc.), but...there's nothing remotely disparaging within that remark. The constant modulations and the Escher-esque vibe/bass turnaround between verses? Godlike.

It's alright, a bit/lot on the cheesy side, but I can't disassociate it from The Big Lebowski in my mind. And that might save it.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I just went down a small Mickey Jones internet wormhole after watching that video. They were right to put him up front.

As for the song, I like it, but it doesn't blow me away.

Love that.

I like the track, too, but I'm mainly here to post the Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings version:

which led me to discover there's a Bettye Lavette version!

but you're all talking about the song and not the performance in the OP...

both are groovy but the recorded track is also a GAS!

Was there anything Sharon Jones couldn’t bore the fuck out of? RIP x

 I've known that for about 20 years! Certainly before I heard any other version. Really surprised you've not come across it, but yeah it is really great.

That's a great performance. I love the record.

I'm a sucker for psych sounds regardless of how authentic they are.

I'd never seen that clip, how awesome was that!

I've always liked the song; one of those tunes that always sounded great coming out of car speakers on a hot summer day with the windows down.

An exceptionally well crafted piece of kitsch.

Admittedly, sometimes I love that. In this case, not so much.
