Roy Orbison hologram?

Postby Tactful Cactus » 04 Apr 2018, 14:36

He's playing here at the end of the month in hologram form, tickets are €60 which is much cheaper than if he was alive. I'm thinking about taking me Mam but I'm cautious, the whole hologram thing still seems a bit fringe. Has anyone been to a show, was it good or weird and distant?

He'd be a relatively easy hologram to make, I would think. He wasn't exactly known for leaping about onstage.

WASN'T known for it... past tense. There's a whole opportunity to re-engineer what Roy was like on stage. Maybe we can give him a little zazz.

Roy Orbison Ver 2.0 with added stage antics.

Rumored that Ver 2.1 will include added dance moves, jokes and fun stories.

I'd never visit a show like this one, but that aside -

which other people, well-filmed, would be eligible to do a hologram-tour in 2018?

I mean: I can think of innumerable mad and bad 'leaders' who'd probably appeal to the confused and gullible youngsters in the Age Of Trump.

Mind-boggling, it is.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

I'm going next week at Hammersmith
The tour manager is my old friend Marilyn (the LA crew all met her when she came to a jolly up with me at the Cat and the Fiddle)

I have very little expectation and wouldn't have dreamed of buying a ticket for it but as its a freebie,,,

I'm imagining the show ending with "It's Over" and after the last chorus - It's over, it's over, it's ooooooooo-ver / It's OOOOOOO-VEEEEEER! - he just sorta fizzles out.

Bad news, the Orb-ogram has a virus and is currently phishing concert-goers bank accounts.

Change your passwords people.

1. A bowl full of zeros in the green room. If any ones are present the concert does not go ahead.

I didn't get the tickets in the end. I went with Paul Simon instead. He's like a hologram but more doughy.

Still, eagerly awaiting the review.

Well, I went tonight
It was sold out last night and reasonably well subscribed tonight

I absolutely loved it.
My friend and I just kept looking at each other incredulously.
It WAS Roy on that stage.
There were two numbers where the lighting behind him were bright enough that you could see he was translucent, but aside from that?
Remarkable.

So yeah - there's a 25-odd piece band made up of drums, bass, guitars and Royal Philharmonic, plus two girl backing singers and they pretty much do every post-Sun 'hit' in a 75 minute set
It started with Only The Lonely and ended with Oh Pretty Woman and never let up for a second - a couple of video montage interludes aside. My personal highlights were a truly gobsmacking It's Over and a full on You Got It. But you could have picked any of it and held it up as a gem.

Now whether you think that a reanimated 1960s-looking Roy Orbison is a good thing or a macabre creepfest, that is your call. But musically it was absolutely unimpeachable - how they managed to isolate Roy's vocals at that quality is a mystery to me (arf) - and the sound was the best I have ever heard at the Hammy O.

they are doing Callas next
