See, that's the one I would say is a mess. It sounds like an exercise rather than an inspiration.

"Every Little Thing" is fine by me. Not my favorite track on the album (and not a patch on the original, which is one of my favorite "early Beatles" songs), but it works well in context.

Funny how we all hear things differently.

And we’re still only on the first album!

Shit, even playing the Rickenbacker with overdrive...

Agree. I tire of the version of "America". Maybe it's also because the original is so much better. "Every Little Thing" is one thing and The Beatles are common cover-ees; "America" is on another level.

I knew the Yes version of "America" long before I knew the S&G version. To me, it's just about as great as a cover gets (ala Hendrix "Watchtower") - there's a lot of wonderful ideas in there, some incredible playing and sounds, and...yeah, I'd say (to my ears) the "expansiveness" of the arrangement evokes the seemingly endless geography hinted at in the lyrics.

I'm not the biggest fan of this song, but it is pointing the way towards the beautiful ballads to come.

It's probably the beta version of something they developed more fully, but I love its simplicity, innocence and, sure, drippiness.

Used to magnificent effect in Buffalo 66.

I think that’s where I am for most of the pre-Yes Album work, hearing an out-of-focus version of what I know is coming and treating it kindly.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Sure, I take your point, there is a fragile innocence to the song which is endearing.

I'm not sure I've even seen Buffalo 66. I'll look out for it.

Survival. And so we get to the final song on the album: saving the best to last, in my opinion.

Interestingly, the album begins with one foot in psychedelia and ends with the other in progressive rock.

Survival, is the band playing fantastically well and YES, it bodes well for the future.

It is terrific and by far my fave track of this album.
The serenity after that fade-out is glorious....nice build up to the end too.

Such a good one. A wonderful blend of delicate humanity and extremely deft heaviness.

Yes, I ended up playing this one a few times today.

A very good song.

Another one where the first 30 secs promise so much.
