Terribly grainy footage, but fascinating stuff and the sound is decent...

Horace Silver & Lee Morgan plus a crack back-up band on 'Soul' TV Show.

Jon Raskin from ROVA saxophone Qt. moved here earlier this year so I've had a chance to hear him play in a variety of bands in my two favorite local jazz venues including last night with a trio including bass trumpet/trombone, drums and Jon on bari and alto. He's very creative and a joy to hear/watch explore his ideas of jazz.

The second band that played was a saxophone quartet featuring two altos and two tenors (one tenor player also played bari).
This wasn't improv though but written pieces by one of the alto players. Hard for me to describe other than provocative and beautiful.

Tonight I have a date with my ex to hear more local jazz at Luna's Cafe. We've had several extremely talented jazz artists move to Sacramento in the last year or so and along with our steady list of musicians already playing here I'm feeling a bit of a jazz renaissance here which is fantastic. Might be economics or people getting tired of living in big cities that are becomng difficult for those who aren't flush with cash or real estate holdings.
Everything is broken

^^ This sounds like an excellent artifact. I've often thought this period of Mingus' recorded output doesn't get as much praise or consideration as it should. It's a shame George Adams isn't there on sax; i've liked Stubblefield well enough on his records with McCoy Tyner or San Rivers say, but to hear Adams with Pullen and Mingus would have made this seriously essential. Still, i will be searching this out in some way for sure. Nice find, gashy!
