Oh dear.

You see. This is why it is so hard to have any sort of debate about Corbyn. Any criticism of him is seen as sacrilege, and noses are looked down and you can hear the tutting of the metropolitan elite from all the way out here in Bucks.

I'm quite happy to engage with informed criticism on him but some vague sweeping statement about his supposed misanthropy doesn't exactly have a lot of substance to it. What exactly are we meant to debate about here? You may as well say I don't like him because "he pours boiling water over the heads of beggars and eats babies".

Still it's nice to see I'm regarded as being part of "the metropolitan elite". I hope they won't mind me joining them too much! :)

There's no chance of him becoming leader though, is there? I mean that would be suicidal for the Tories.

I don't even need to know how he votes to know he's a cunt. Anybody who quotes latin in interviews when he knows nobody has a clue what he's on about is a total arse. Don't let that Walter the Softy exterior fool you. You better believe he bummed boys in the locker rooms.

I know a cunt when I see one.

Indeed, all bets are off these days.

There's reasons why Trump appealed though. I don't think it's the same thing. There's no way somebody like Mogg is gonna appeal to working class voters in the same way that Trump could in America. If the Tories wanna make him leader then go hog wild

Toby wrote:Rees-Mogg is articulate and candid about his views. I thought his declaration that he didn't believe in abortion in that interview was a brilliant example of how to separate individual perspectives from that of party line or government policy. Compare that with the Liberal nobody that I can't even remember the name of who resigned because he couldn't give a straightforward answer reconciling his faith and party line. I respected him a lot for that - I admire politicians who are not afraid to tell awkward truths.

My concern is that he has little or no government experience.

Corbyn - I admire his tenacity but I can't trust anyone who has said no for 30 years as a politician and refused to compromise. When you get to that age in professional life there is little doubt that you don't change either. He is a competent constituency MP and an excellent campaigner, but someone who champions Chavez in Venezuela and goes on Iranian TV to support their regime can't get anywhere near the reins of power in my eyes.

Rees_Mogg is your right wing "Christian" who cherry picks the parts of the bible he is going to legislate on - hint - not the Jesus bits about treating your neighbour as yourself and giving away your worldly wealth to enter the kingdom of heaven but the bits about what women should do with their bits.

He is a hypocritical shit stain of a human being who is looking to make money out of sending this country down the shitter in Brexit and in any sane world he would literally be put up against a wall and be shot like the Ceausescus.

Chavev died years ago and did some remarkably good things as well as some stupid shit before popping his clogs, and telling socialists that Venezuela is the end game for socialism is like telling capitalists that that Nigeria is what awaits them.

Corbyn didn't go on Iranian TV to support the Iranian regime, that is just a lie.

Corbyn is a mediocre politician with decent values and in the modern world when you look at the absolute scumbags who infest the political system on both sides, but lets be fair mainly on the Tory side, that is as good as it gets.

There hasn't been in a decent human being in charge of a political Party in this country between John Smith and Jeremy Corbyn, and John Smith was twice the politician Corbyn is. Let's make an honourable exception for Charles Kennedy in that.

This country is fucked because of the quality of human being that is attracted to the political arena, but at least we aren't the USA; but we will be as bad if we elect a vampiric, rent seeking, sociopathic spunk stain like Rees-Mogg to rule us.

At least Chavez appeared to have some desire to make the lot of the broad majority of the people of his country's lot better, Rees-Mogg is in it for Rees-Mogg and if he can fuck over Women, Gays, and foreigners in the process that is just the cherry on the top for the cunt.

"Everyone knows"

Corbyn belongs to the same school of Bennite thought that didn't want to join the EU. McDonnell too. Why would far left socialists want to be part of it?

Corbyn campaigned for Remain, voted remain and said he would vote remain in any fresh plebiscite.

Not that you'd know that from the news media in this country. The only thing he has done since is say we have to honour the decision that was reached.

Now I tend to the view that we should tell the idiots who voted leave that we aren't going to do that because they are too fucking thick to have a sensible cogent view on the matter, but his is an honourable view and mine isn't.

And what is far left about a man whose economic policy is to the right of Harold Macmillan. You always jaw along about being an old school liberal Conservative, why wouldn't you vote for a man with the old school liberal Conservative policies of Harold Macmillan?

Or are you just trying to sugar coat your reactionary extreme right wing views?

I believe you are as about as extreme right as Corbyn is far left.

I have just read about the latest Corbyn smear - that he was passing information to an Eastern Block spy in the 80s

Rather let down by that information apparently being what Thatcher was going to be wearing the next day and being given by a guy who reckons he set up Live Aid as a Soviet front operation. And yet the Daily Mail happily prints this guff, I suppose they reckon it worked with the Zinoviev letter.

I think the Tories are starting to stink of desperation, but that is an almighty big dead cat to be throwing on the table so one can only imagine what shit storm of bad news for the country is being obscured.

I don't think anybody has even noticed.
It isn't as if JC is adopting a high profile at the moment.
I suspect most people have forgotten all about him, and think that Emily Thornberry is leader of the opposition.

Was it really?
Chavez took over from a government that was widely seen to be corrupt in a country riven by violence and appalling poverty. A more balanced view would admit that he did do things to improve the country and reduce levels of poverty and illiteracy.
https://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2012/oct/04/venezuela-hugo-chavez-election-data
There were also failures and I certainly would condemn him on human rights. But your dismissal is too simplistic.

Not entirely beyond the bounds of possibility. There's history for that by another Labour MP.
In earlier years, John Stonehouse was spying for Czechoslovakia.

These latest allegations do seem a bit barrel scraping to me. I mean, what sort of information were they going to give as backbench MPs in opposition?
