I’m fed up ‘cos all you ever do is criticise

My views have softened a little, but I mostly stand by this.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Re: 60s/70s Soul Artists We Don't Like
I can’t believe I was so dismissive of Eddie Holman in my first post!
Re-reading it, what bugged me about this thread was the tiny universe of Soul/R&B and Funk acts actually under discussion.
Essentially what happened was people started mentioning the most enduring 30 or so artists from that era and condemning or defending. It would be analogous to asking the same question about 60s/70s rock and pop acts, and having folks answer, “I don’t like The Byrd’s much,” “I never got Creedence” and/or “Led Zeppelin never really connected with me”
I get that people see soul as getting a free pass because there’s so little risk in including a generic soul obscurity to your cup list. But I think there’s just as much evidence that we pass over most of this work as invisible. We’ve got time here to parse the difference between The Seeds and the Shadows of Knight, but you’d never see the same attention given to the Bar-Kays vs. The Dells (and imagine the blank stares if you started a Whatnauts vs. Lost Generation thread).
Somewhere around the Chi-lites and Doris Troy...this board falls off the map, treating all of the rest of this material as rare trinkets of amazement brought back from the wild.
So sure. You get some ooohs and aaahs for being willing to don the pith helmet, cut through the YouTube brush and return with a curio from Brenda and the Tabulations. But that isn’t a result of too much adulation for soul music. It’s a result of our willingness to mostly collectively ignore it, and then exoticize it when we do pay it any mind.

I don't think that's fair at all. I know lots of legit people who love EW&F.
Also, No Official Funk band, such as Parliament, ever came close to a "Shining Star," "That's The Way of the World," or "September," or whatever. I'll happily trade Official Funk Credibility for actual great records, if that's necessary.

His assessment also completely ignores the psych-soul/funk of their early records.
Is this for people who can’t stand the heat?

I like E, W & F, but this is untrue.
You like silly Parliament records. We know. That's ok.

Perhaps the more apt question is, what does Count mean? What heat and what funk can these alleged EW&F fans not stand? And how does having silly fans factor into assessing the quality of the actual music?

A "sensible" Parliament record is no Parliament record at all, is it!

Dammit, I'm working, I can't get to deep into this.
But in brief I think I was probably referring to how EWF is way more pop than funk. For a band with Earth in their name they don't seem that earthy.
There's just a sheen and gloss to the whole thing and the relentless positivity pissies me off sometimes.
Gah. GOtta go.

What would you know about soul music, John? I'm not really sure you've ever listened to any.
