I love the ones I've heard (dunno Bettye, dunno Freddie), but that's

top 3 Supremes for me (the little spoken word sections with the harpsichord - fuck!),

JB at his absolute peak,

and as every schoolboy knows, Sam and Dave didn't put out a weak single.

I needed 4 votes at minimum:

Tell it Like it Is
I Never Loved a Man
I Was Made to Love Her

Would have added Cold Sweat at #4.

Martha, the Supremes, Stevie. Burned out on Tell it, don't know/remember several of the others, have controversial views about Sam and Dave and Glad and Jim, so find myself voting the Motown card.

Some of these I love, but as I grew up listening to AM radio, I have heard each of these at least 132,786,742 times. The Stevie and James are the two that were probably played less than they should have been, and "Respect" most likely to renew the thrill after a suitable hiatus. But like most here, there's nothing here I'd argue against.

. Got Jimi's autograph after the show and went on to see him several times that year

Stevie Wonder, Jackie Wilson, and Sam and Dave fer me.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Jackie, Aaron and "I Never Loved a Man." Choosing from among the Aretha records was rough.
No. 4 would have been Stevie.
