A great album. I bought this when it was released for one track only, The Martian Hop by the Ran Dells. I had the 45 but it was well past its sell by date and was becoming unplayable. It was one of the first 45s I was given when I reached my first teen birthday and it always reminded me of that time.
It also includes a parody of the Shang's Leader..namely Leader of the laundromat by The Detergents.
One track that I think only just scrapes in as a novelty track is the Gene Simmons' Haunted House. One of the first true rock n roll madhatters, he was better known as 'jumpin' Gene. He is also the inspiration for one Gene Klien's name change.

Hmm, going back through old threads, I was surprised this one got so little response. But those were the dark, pre-Rayge days. I would think he'd have something to contribute here.

Anyway, I'll give it some thought. But this was an interesting thread that probably deserved more response than it got at the time.

I've never seen that album but I do have all three of the tracks Muskrat mentioned on 45s, plus Dinner with Drac and Western Movies (the Olympics turn as the Marathons in their ode to Peanut Butter also worth checking out), both volumes of the Grim Reaper sets (which miss out a few essentials – I made a specialty of collecting so-called 'sick' records - and would be interested to know which tracks are represented by all the expired youtube links.
that said, I wouldn't class any of them as 'novelty' records - they were all more or less in mainstream genres. For me, novelty must have some kind of conceit that was genuinely new, such as a (sorry) mash-up of monster movies and dance crazes in Monster Mash.
Not a lot of time at the moment, but I remember Thesiger dismissing this beauty as a novelty in a cup once...



I will try to get back to this, but life is a bit busy at the moment.
