The Lamb is possibly the only double album of any genre that there is any chance of me listening to from start to finish.

The Lamb I suppose. But I'd be more likely to play a side of Tales, never the whole album at a sitting but any one of the 4 sides.

Funnily, I am not a great lover of either

I know Lamb better than Tales

I should rectify that......

I haven't heard Tales but I'm not keen on Yes when they go full fat prog.

The Lamb is great.

I have some doubts. I think I like Lamb better, but maybe because it feels less prog, in fact I find it surprisingly un-prog compared to previous Genesis albums. But when I am in a prog mood it's more likely that I play Tales ...

Tales in its revamped glory has gotten quite a bit of favor in the last few years. The Lamb though is where it all began for me.

Tales for me no contest, could never get on with Genesis.

I've listened to a lot of Yes, but I've never listened to Tales and I can't imagine liking it more than The Lamb after only one listen (which I'm doing now), so I'll come back to this.

The Lamb by a million miles, but I do have an unexplained/unexpected fondness for Tales.I prefer GFTO and CTTE, but have probably played Tales more often in the last year. Its a grower.

I have never actually heard 'Tales' on the grounds that I've been reliably informed by multiple sources that it is the worst thing ever.

It is and it isn't.
It is a very dense record, one that just baffle your senses even if you listen to prog regularly. But I like to think that the first and fourth sides are the easiest to digest and definitely are worth to hear.
Unless you rather listen to people blathering on about stuff they don't understand rather than try it yourself....

I love them both the same, so impossible for me to choose.

Saying that, The Lamb is my favourite Genesis album, whereas Tales is probably only my third favourite Yes album.

But even so...

In a way, it is something like The Wall was for Pink Floyd in that although it seems the most bloated, it is full of smaller punchier ideas woven into a larger format. "Lilywhite Lilith" for example is, in its way and at about two and a half minutes, almost a pop song. It's very brief and packs a punch. Then it's followed by five minutes of weird noises, and then a three-minute piano-based thing. So it has more varied and usually shorter ideas, rather than these 10-minute songs that were prevalent on the previous four albums.

Just exaggerating, of course. I've heard parts of it that I thought sounded okay, but I'm in no hurry to hear more at this point.

I've never warmed to Tales but I'm willing to buy the latest reissue of it to see if the Steven Wilson fairy dust has made any improvement.

Lamb took a little longer than most Genesis albums to work its magic but once it did I was a hooked
