There's a big thread on Hoffman (also a scary one about Grant Hart) on it. The videos of his recent playing have shown him to be knocking out varying degrees of noodle-ness but not enough to overpower anything. I love Larry Carlton, and he's incredible on The Royal Scam so....
I'd have liked to see Walt and Carlton together.
Becker was irreplaceable in the writing room/studio, less so live.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I think that's a fair trade. I must say that the time I saw them (with no LC) that Walter Becker not only played some swell guitar - he was absolutely hilarious. Still, hearing LC would be a big plus and might make up for being Becker-less.... almost.

Although, I'm pretty sure nobody will be heartbroken over not hearing Walter sing.

Listening to Katy Lied for the thousandth time today and it struck me how Zappa-ish "Throw Back The Little Ones" is. Well, in Zappa's wildest dreams anyway.

Katy Lied was my college album blasted over and over from my roommate Danny's and my four speaker stereo out our open dorm room door. And what was amazing was that Katy Lied was a cut-out album, sold cheap from a bin with a punched out hole in right hand corner of the sleeve.
Question authority.

I'm planning to listen to that on my next drive. I hope he convinces me that him having 100% of Steely Dan's business interests is a good thing for all parties involved.
I'm FAR from convinced right now.

You probably know more about the situation than I do - all I know is what I just read in that link, and in the earlier article about the lawsuit that was linked there. What are your misgivings?
The blatantly let's-get-as-much-of-this-tried-in-the-court-of-public-opinion-as-we-can tone of the Becker estate rep's statement seems pretty weasely to me, but what do I know - I suppose that's more or less Standard Operating Procedure in these cases. On the other hand, I'm astonished that Becker & Fagen had an agreement about this shit in writing as far back as 1972, before they'd had any success to speak of; I'd love to know more about that.

The Lost Gaucho
Been enjoying this a lot - tho its kinda jarring hearing different lyrics to "Third World Man"/ "Were You Blind That Day"
