I was curious about the Alice Coltrane compilation since it's rated so highly and it's pretty amazing!

Yeah, I really really liked that one.

And, err ... Sgt. Pepper.

I really need to hear that. I lucked into four of her albums (for cheap) on vinyl about a month ago and it was all I wanted to listen to for weeks.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

This new comp is different from other Alice Coltrane records because there's so much vocals on it but it definitely does what it says on the tin - it's "ecstatic music" all right, it's the most soulful Hare Krishna record you'll ever hear.

Those Ramones 40th anniversary sets have completely turned my head around. They are just wonderful reissues that puts each LP into near exhaustive context and include fantastic sound and every scrap you could want.

The one for Rocket to Russia that just came out a couple weeks ago has a live set from Glasgow in December of 1977 that just might be the definitive live Ramones record. And the Leave Home has a really good CBGB's bootleg from earlier in the year that is also a really fun listen.

Also, if you have not yet heard the new mono mix of the first LP that restores all of DeeDee's count-ins, do it. I really can't stress the excellent job Rhino did on these sets. I'm hoping they continue with Road to Ruin and End of the Century, and then maybe stop.

Thanks, I was completely unaware of those.

Totally agree Nathan, I've been listening to the first three Ramones' albums more than I have in decades, all because of those anniversary sets. And I much prefer the Glasgow live set to the It's Alive 2LP.

Has anyone mentioned the Link Wray reissues via Light in the Attic like Beans and Fatback and the amazing self-titled LP with the die-cut cover? That's up there with Bright Phoebus as my reissue of the year.

I've read lots more lists this month since my opening post, they've led me to some great records I didn't know or reminded me about more favourites for the year. Check out reissue list from Piccadilly Records, Norman Records, Factmag, and The Vinyl Factory.

Dion - Kickin' Child: Lost Columbia Album (1965). Such an outstanding album.
Haruomi Hosono LPs like Pacific and Cochin Moon.
American Epic: the Collection - 5CD set.
Chris Bell - I Am the Cosmos deluxe.
Claude Lombard - self-titled (1970)
Tradition - Captain Ganja and the Space Patrol (1980)
Hermeto Pascoal - Viajando com o som
Steve Hiett - Down On The Road By The Beach
Zazou, Bikaye, CY1 - Noir et Blanc
Outro Tempo - electronic and contemporary music from brazil 1978-1992
Lee Hazlewood - Requiem for an Almost Lady; The Cowboy and the Lady (with Ann Margret).
Deutsche Elektronische Musik v3 -1971-81 (2017)
Even a Tree Can Shed Tears - Japanese Folk & Rock 1969-1973
The Other People Place - Lifestyles of the Laptop Café.
Moondog - Moondog (1969)

Were those Epic Soundtracks reissues this year or last? Rise Above, Sleeping Star etc. on vinyl.

Oh, that Dion one was long overdue.

Maybe somebody will finally due a legit reissue of the Together Again reunion album with The Belmonts now!

Yet they couldn't even scrape together half an hour's worth of material for the album proper?

I don't know - I'll listen to anything from that era, but I'm not getting my hopes up!

Haha, yes, Friends clocks in at less than half an hour, IIRC.

A shade over 22 minutes. As is Wild Honey and Smiley Smile. Barely reasonable ep's. But what amazing albums they are.

More a reconstruction/re-recording/live versions of their catalogue.

Yeah that Quietus list is reissues/comps/live/mixes etc. I’m far more interested in that or GoHS’s own list than in the Uncut or Mojo ones though.

Looks like a clean sweep for Alice Coltrane, she was top of The Wire's reissue charts, too, though that's less of a surprise than in Mojo.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Yeah agreed, also #3 in the Uncut list, so a clean sweep indeed. I really like this Alice Coltrane collection but it's interesting that an album so resolutely spiritual and faith-focused has been such a smash hit with (generally) secular critics and publications.

Is that a sign that 2017 has been such a trial that we're looking for something reassuring and optimistic to focus on?

Bark Psychosis is a strange one, I don't know if that album's reputation stands through the coinage of post-rock as a term, because I find it very wearying and dull.

Bark Psychosis's Hex never grabbed me upon its release but the critical hosannas were so loud that I thought it was my fault I was missing something. Having just listened to it twice in a row I feel vindicated as it's more than a bit dull. Clinks glasses with Darkness Fish.
