Yeah, awful. It feels like 'dialing it in' doesn't even seem to come close to how little they care.

The minute you see a performer with a megaphone it's time to nip out the fire exit and go for a curry.
You come at the Queen, you best not miss.

^^ I can't force myself to play those. It's asking too much.
We do have categories: fantastic-good-mediocre-below par-terrible-cult item.
I can't put this into one of these. Is there a label called: 'void'?

Not sure if this was quite what you meant, Bride, but void is spot on. It’s music that is nothing. It’s empty. The shell of what’s left of U2 provides a good impression of a living group but there is absolutely nothing there. This is music created, inspired and driven by marketing and contractual needs.
They haven’t even put the cart before the horse; There is no cart, and clearly no place they could think to take it to even if they did have one.

That is near perfection, as to what my intentions were when mentioning: 'void'.
Cheers!

It doesn't seem all that different to what they've been doing for most of their career. I struggle to see it as some kind of career nadir or terrible decline. Is it so much worse than what was on the last album or the one before that? Why should our expectations be any different?

Is it ironic that U2 have ended up sounding like Coldplay?

Re: U2 - new album
Anyway, 'Get Out Of Your Own Way' (shit title, granted) is as good a single as they've released since 'Vertigo'. It's got a bit of that old U2 magic.
Their last top ten hit single in the UK was in 2007, by the way. Bit of a shocker, that.

Novelty shocker, Anna -
I agree in full, without any irony.
What I see in Bono is a world class liar and tax evader, a liar, and a poser. He has learned the lessons of late capitalism like few others before him did, in the entertainment business. Use big words, grand statements, about universalism, inclusion, diversity, and, ahem, "love", and steal money from the poor at the same time.
He now belongs to the Davos Class, to the group of inhuman imposters. To the band of 'friends', that includes Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Rodrigo Duterte, Vladimir Putin, and all other monetary criminals around the world.
This from a man who once, long ago, believed in what Paul Hewson proclaimed, and bought his albums. Thankfully, that time is over. For decades.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

No Anna -
if only because you are in the possession of two tits, and I don't even have one, I won't.
There is a deep understanding within me that you and Pete hate me, for reasons that I cannot comprehend.
That is not my problem, it's yours and Pete's.
You can start a petition on BCB, to get me banned. I'd welcome such an initiative. My life does not depend on this (wonderful) site.
Do whatever you think that's best for you. If you succeed in convincing enough others, I'll simply go away.
You might find out, at a much later time, that you are the only member of this venerable collective.
I guess that was your aim all along.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

I don't think I could name their last three albums.
I remember there was one called 'Disco'.
I don't believe it got played in discos.

Agree. The only thing I see is that that "American Soul" clip is even further detached from reality due to it trying to be relevant to these more turbulent modern times.
