Well, that's quite palpably false!
Yeah, I think their execution was very distinctive and thought out: the layers of echoed guitar, the way the bass often carried the melody, it wasn't just about Frazer's voice (although that was obviously the thing that stood out the most). But I can see how they might be an acquired taste.
Their sound is so distinctively their own that sometimes I'll hear a Cocteau's track and it almost seems like they're going through the motions, but at their best they hit peaks of beauty few can match.

I have tried, honest guv, and I do like some of their stuff but they never stood up to the reviews I read prior to hearing them.
That's all I can say really. I think it's maybe a generational thing.

It's a nice idea but they're often quite dull. They sorta float along and it's pleasant enough but unmemorable a lot of the time. They have their moments but some of the praise is way over the top IMHO
They’re basically Enya for goths

Oh don't give me that. You were laying down cloaks the other day so Yorke could cross a puddle. You've no room to bloody talk

Re: Your 3 favourite Cocteau Twins albums
Actually I’m just on the wind-up. I’ve barely heard any of their stuff. I wasn’t keen on what I have heard, as Liz Fraser’s voice didn’t work for me in that setting.

Re: Your 3 favourite Cocteau Twins albums
Maybe we should start posting the tracks we love from them. It's difficult music to talk about after all. I tend to like them when they're at their most abstract and liminal. This was always a big favourite:

Rather Yorke than Lord Ferry of the Hunt!
Listening to Treasure now. It does have lovely melodies but I can't really climb into any sonic cathedrals when the production is so bad. That seems to defeat the point.
