It sounds very lush. I am not sure that it should. At least they haven't corrected any of the mistakes... But I like it a lot. Red Sails sounds as huge as it should.

The coda to Boys Keep Swinging has been altered. Instead of the guitar solo being comprised of different takes it now sticks with the first, allowing Belew's solo to play out, as is.
Not quite sure what that has to do with 'improving the mix'. Totally wrecks the song.

Its a good job Rembrant, Picasso or Vermeer couldn't remix their paintings to suit contemporary viewers
According to the notes Visconti was not happy with it at the time due to lack of equipment in the studio they used and lack of time to mix it how he wanted so it never did sound the way he envisaged.

I’m not familiar with Lodger so hearing it for the first time in its entirety I am definitely preferring the remix to the original.

I don't have the boxed set but by all accounts the version of the original Lodger included isn't particularly good (?)

Re: Bowie - A New Career In A New Town boxed set
Lots of issues with this box set
from Amazon UK
"1. The volume drop in Heroes is pretty much unforgivable. Real amateur hour stuff.
2. Numerous small problems with the 'original' Lodger.
3. Low now has a very odd sound on some ( not all) of the tracks, most noticeably Speed of Life where the bass is boosted to a ridiculous degree.
It's a real shame - this should have been arguable the crown jewel of these Bowie boxes but we've been delivered paste instead of diamonds. I couldn't in all conscience see people pay full price for a fatally flawed premium product. Hopefully the number of people flagging this in the first few days after release may lead to Parlophone revisiting the flawed areas, but I sadly doubt it."
"Sound significantly drops on "Heroes" at about 2:50 as others have reported. This really needs fixing and replacement discs sending out as it totally ruins arguably the most important track. I have the vinyl version and it's exactly the same on Spotify so it obviously a mastering issue. How can no-one have noticed this before the release. Disgraceful. "
And the Hoffmans going gaga over all the errors!
Ah, well......

"Amazon UK says they are "out of stock", which one must assume is a euphemism for "it's pulled".
