One of the magics about the new camera is that it enables me to zoom in on my notoriously-difficult-to-spot-until-you're-almost-on-it pad, and those are definitely my (blocked up) chimneys, corrugated asbestos roof and TV aerial in the middle of this one. Woo hoo!

Today, Clevedon, Kenn and the way home.
Chip and I lived in the village of Kenn, about a mile south west of Clevedon, on the Bristol Channel, from 2005 to 2010. I hadn't been back since March of that year, nearly seven and a half years. In Clevedon, it was raining and there was nowhere to park on the front, but I took a few for old time's sake from Poet's Walk, where we used to walk our dog, Kez...

Prepared

Image
The Pill
Clevedon – well, that end of the Bristol Channel in general – boasts the second-greatest tidal reach in the world, with more than 10m between some high and low tides, which means that the boats in the harbour (which is what The Pill is) are often beached - high and dry in fact – at low tide.

Image
Familiar
This red and white boat (all hail the telephoto!) often featured in the shots I took here a decade ago

Image
Two Holms
The two islands are Steep Holm and Flat Holm. Take a bead between them and you don't make landfall until the American mainland

Then on to Kenn, for a quick look at the old house, and the reverse of the Oldland Common experience, as I found the garden altered, but still basically the one that we – well, mostly me in this case – had made, just grown more luxuriant
Image
Pond, Wall, Hedge
In 2005, I dug the pond and planted some whips of native trees about six feet away to make a hedge. A couple of years later, I used stones from a rubble pile left from the conversion of farm buildings into the house in which we were living to make a low, wide, dry-stone wall, in part for seating by the pond, but also incorporating various runnels and entranceways that could be colonized by amphibians and other wildlife. And the hedge is now a thick woodland, and all developed better than I hoped

Image
John's Vine
John and Grace were our next-door neighbours. That's one single plant filling that greenhouse, pumping out an astonishing amount of grapes.

Today's batch is a return to the humdrum and doze of Deep Devon, as we amble down the lower slopes of summer: the view is still splendid, but not quite so wide as before. Although the occasional detail intrigues

It's going to have to do for the last two, as well, as I'm all out of inspired captions.
