90s or Covers Cup?
What is it going to be?
Cast your vote, I'll give it a few days.

Re: Cup runneth over???
A sort of Challenge Cup is what I'd like to see.
Groups of 3 (for example) - each player plays one song against the other. Winner goes through to the next round of groups.
Logistical nightmare I know.

Re: Cup runneth over???
A competition of songs no more than 30 seconds in length is all I have time for these days.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

Great idea. 50 songs an entrant.

I know it would be pretty far down most people's list of preferences, but I think a Covers Cup would be interesting.

Re: Cup runneth over???
The challenge cup is too complicated for my old brain,
I voted for Ladies' and 50's-60's (the latter is meant to be pre-Beatles, so roughly 1950-1963, I suppose?)
Ooohh... and Loki's idea of a cover's cup would be fab!

Yeah, the Covers Cup would get my vote, too.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

OK, I added the Covers Cup to the list.... Sounds like a good idea too!

Good.
Come to think of it, I'd be in for the 60's yet again and synth/electronica too.

The '60s have been done to death on here. Let's go with one of the more novel suggestions.

Re: Cup runneth over???
I put forward an idea for a Weird Cup a while ago, but failing that, I'd prefer a genre cup to a decades one.
But I (or one of my aliases) would have a bash at anything on there except the 70s (oog), Yacht Rock (whatever that is) and electronics/synth (too broad - wouild it be synths/electronic instruments only or anything incorporating at least one Moog/mellootron/theremin?
And is the, ahem, Ladies cup just about female vocalists, or all-female bands?

Re: Cup runneth over???
There used to be a Bizarro Cup a few years ago which was all bout bad taste. Really enjoyed that one but the Captain went AWOL and the Cup disappeared.

Is the mere idea deemed sexist?
I'd say female singers/frontwomen and/or female musicians/composers.
All-female bands would narrow it down to little more than half a dozen (although the resident obscurity buffs would undoubtedly dig up loads more).

Well, I have stuff by more than a couple of dozen, from the 70s on, but what I was thinking of was all-girl groups, which of course includes vocal groups and choirs.

Re: Cup runneth over???
The thought of a Weird Cup still interests me, but I'm always so disappointed by the voting in these competitions. I'd probably do another 60's Cup, anyway.

Simple really.
All BBC'ers can participate. The boys all have man boobs.
Except maybe Quaco.

This week I watched Fight Club while commuting. From now on, the term man boobs will always conjure up the character played by Meat Loaf in my mind.
Which isn't a bad thing, really.
