Cool you singled this one out! Great cover, eh? It's background music for mid-'70s swinging cocktail parties, I would say. Slightly jazzy piano-led combo doing classics ('Blueberry Hill', 'Harry Lime Theme', 'Yesterday'...).

This past week I haven't had any new music to listen to so I'm listening to all my older freakbeat/psych compilations:

A Heavy Dose of Lyte Psych
Beyond the Calico Wall
Chocolate Soup
Electric Sugarcube Flashbacks
Freakbeat Freakout
Maximum Freakbeat
My Rainbow Life
Pebbles
Pepperisms around the World
Psychedelia at Abbey Road
Psychedelic Unknowns
Searching for Shakes
We Can Fly

etc.

Remembering why I've obsessively sought out these kinds of compilations since.
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

The latest car pile:

Egberto Gismonti - Água & Vinho [1972] - mostly superb, though it gets a bit sluggish in the middle.

Egberto Gismonti - Egberto Gismonti [1973] - haven't listened yet.

Girl Ray - Earl Grey [2017] - I like them, but 54 minutes is a bit much. Good in smaller chunks.

lotsa Fugs [1965-68]

Tom Rapp - Stardancer [1972] - one of his favorites, but not one of mine - a few really interesting tracks, though.

Nick Heyward - Woodland Echoes [2017] - I'd never listened to any of his solo records before, and the first few songs had me thinking maybe I'd been missing out... but I kinda lost interest after a while. Still listened to the whole thing, though.

Egg - Egg [1970] and The Polite Force [1971] - a few nice moments, particularly on the second album, but overall the sort of thing that could give Prog a bad name.

The Langley Schools Music Project - I remembered liking this, and I might yet, but I put it on this morning and took it off a short ways into the third song. I might return.

Zélia Duncan - Pré-Pós-Tudo-Bossa-Band [2005] - pretty good.

The Young Idea - With A little Help From My Friends [1967] - pleasant enough that I didn't take it off, but... meh, really.

Alice Babs & Duke Ellington - Serenade To Sweden [1961] - nice.

Altona - self-titled [1974] - haven't listened yet.

Last Exit - Köln [1986] - haven't listened yet, and I can't remember whether I heard this one back in the late '80s/early '90s when I was checking out the rest of their albums (a mixed bag - I really like their one studio recording Iron Path, and Headfirst Into The Flames).

Really? I found it very trying. Too many pointless metric exercises, not enough melody. (I admit I didn't make it to Side 2 - maybe it got better.)

Well, side two is instrumental and more serious, so it may be worse! They are another Soft Machine-type band (Caravan, Supersister), replete with the time signatures, wooly organ sounds, and silly/autobiographical lyrics. The singer has a ponderous bellow, which is a bit off-putting, but I've come around to them. They're kind of like SM crossed with The Nice, and the might-as-well-be-audible counting/metric exercises are somehow part of the charm. Keeps the music neutral rather than emotional. Garage prog? It feels like it was recorded in a rehearsal room. As with other early prog (Nice, Procol, Family), I like the rough early sounds more. I've not heard the second and third Egg albums, but I don't know if I would like a better-recorded Egg sound, though the other two are supposed to be better.
