Heavens, Bolt only came in a close second to Christian Coleman (USA) in the 100m semi-final about half an hour ago (see photo below) and he runs again in the final at 21.45 pm (BST).

I really, really hope this goes his way as he approaches his retirement days...

Absurd that someone like Gatlin can get caught and banned for drugs twice and yet still be welcomed back by the authorities and allowed to run. (I was going to write compete but thought better of it).

My opinion of drugs cheats is well known.

But if anyone has a right to feel aggrieved it's actually Christian Coleman - he beat Bolt (twice) at this Championships and still only got a silver medal, behind a twice convicted drugs cheat.

Welcomed is overstating it somewhat. For the 2nd offence, the IAAF gave an 8 year ban, which was reduced to 2 years by CAS because 2 years was the maximum allowed at the time in WADA regulations, which the IAAF are obliged to follow. The maximum has been increased to 4 years now, but that is still not enough.

I agree.

The medal ceremony is happening very shortly, at 18.45 BST and some are wondering how it's going to pan out in terms of audience reaction.

Just back from a hugely enjoyable night at the Athletics World Championships. We saw (among other things) a tremendous women's steeplechase and the women's 200m final, and also saw the great Sally Pearson easily qualify for the 100m hurdles final as the fastest.
There were exciting competitions in the field events too.
The usual excellent and knowledgeable crowd of sport fans cheered the British participants wholeheartedly while being respectful of the success of other nations. Brilliant stuff.

I reckon the Bahamas have been nobbled.

Miller-Uibo appeared to fake an injury / trip herself 30 mtrs from winning the 400 mtrs - no pain on her face afterwards, no tears, just an oh well, shit happens look on her face, then comes out and runs next day and makes the 200 mtrs final.

Now the Bahamas suddenly fall over for no apparent reason in the relay.

Dodgy as fuck.

As an aside - Greg Rutherford has a career in front of the camera when he retires.

A photogenic, engaging, interesting, confident and articulate guy who looks made for TV.

But Denise Lewis is bloody awful. If she says "you know what" one more time I'm going to throw something at her.

"The GB team just said to themselves - you know what, lets just go out there and...."

"And, you know what, it worked."

"And you know what, if they have the belief..."

Over and over a-bloody-gain.

And she says NOTHING that any one of us couldn't come up with. It's all just platitudes and cliches and stating the obvious....

At least Paula Radcliffe TRIES to give some insights.

They are awful except Michael Johnson and some of the older hands such as Steve Cram. Apart from Johnson that lot in the studio all say everything as if their sole duty it to be ambassadors for athletics and spew this relentlessly positive guff about a sport that everyone watching knows is tainted. Colin Jackson is the worst and speaks gibberish anyway. Sally Gunnell was worse than any of the current crop, but all are as bad as promoting their agenda, which means they don't ask tough questions. I have no problem with ex-athletes if they are offering some insight, but if not, let's ditch the fuckers and get some proper journalists/broadcasters in.

How pathetic was the camera work / directing in the girls 4 x 400? The USA passed the post 50 mtrs clear and then they freeze on the finishing line as our girls are coming through (but being hunted down) for the silver medal.

Just pan back FFS!

Oh and now it's the ladies' discus. I put that up there with the shot put in the entertainment stakes.

A very angry press conference from Mo Farah yesterday.

I understand that he feels his name is being unfairly besmirched by the Press - but, in all fairness, if your coach of many years standing is continuing to be investigated over systematic doping charges, it really shouldn't be so much of a surprise.

As Michael Johnson rightly said - yes, he's right to resent direct accusations of doping when nothing has been proven. But understand that if your coach is under investigation for doping, the press have a right to continue to investigate.

If that Chinese women's shot putter manages to pass the drug tests, it'll be one of the great achievements!
