It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I didn't know that Spandau Ballet were named after WWI slang used for twitching corpses hanging on barbed wire who kept being hit by (Spandau) machine gun fire.

"Palestinist" as a derogatory term. Seen on some Hasbara FB page or other.

Incorrect!
The Spandau Ballet was the 'dance' of the hanging Nazi war criminals in Spandau prison.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

I think both are right - it was originally an expression in WWI that was adapted in WWII.

Adopting executed children is a weird thing to do. Reminds me of Gogol's Dead Souls.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Re: Post something you've learnt today
I learned that, in Texas, if a spouse enters a marriage with home owned free and clear (separate property), the married couple live in that house as their homestead, and the spouse who owned the home dies with a will specifically disinheriting the other spouse and leaving the entire estate to a child, the disinherited spouse cannot be forced out of the house, and can live there until he or she dies (a life estate) even though the child owns the house.
