Please indulge me in a toast to Hanane Ben Mahmoud - her and I used to love listening to this album back in 1980
if you are out there in Tunisia or Paris (or both) - I am sorry

Funnily enough, my wife has always hated the fair...even when we were going out when we were 16 year olds.

Mark Knopfler, was a brilliant storyteller and a great lyricist.

And the music just takes you there....into the fair.

it was pretty rare for fairs to hit the new orleans area, being such a huge carnival town (a very diff thing.) yeah, there was one major amusement park that was fair-like. but some of the travelling fairs would come in, very ricketty rides, all the more fun.

what i love most of all is using the fair as a metaphor.

fantastic gweetar this sounds so gooooood

People cite Love Over Gold as their best but I just can't get on with that album.

I'll take this and their eponymous debut as their best brace

I just adore Romeo & Juliette.

If me and Janet had split up, this could have been our song.

Very poignant for me - I think of HBM every time I hear this

I rate Love Over Gold high up the list, but not above this one. I love the debut as well. Water Of Love is a wonderful piece of music.

Side 1 of Love Over Gold, is the absolute peak for me

Side 2, not so much.
