Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Today is the Day - Temple of the Morning Star
Nicely aggressive stuff with top-notch drumming and a slightly annoying vocal style.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - The Nashville Sound (Thirty Tigers)
I saw him on Charlie Rose the other night and really enjoyed the interview and the songs he played. Then I remember I saw him open for Ryan Adams in 2012 I think it was, and he impressed me then too. I have never cared for Drive By Truckers and it was partly to do with ge poor vocals but I'm thinking it wasn't Jason's singing putting me off as I like it fine. I like this new album and I'm thinking of getting the previous two.

Brilliant album! Highly recommeded!

An album inspired by the book "Roadside Picnic" (Piknik na obochine) by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, and the subsequent film "Stalker" (Ctokep) by Andrei Tarkovsky.
"A picnic. Picture a forest, a country road, a meadow. Cars drive off the country road into the meadow, a group of young people get out carrying bottles, baskets of food, transistor radios, and cameras. They light fires, pitch tents, turn on the music. In the morning they leave. The animals, birds, and insects that watched in horror through the long night creep out from their hiding places. And what do they see? Old spark plugs and old filters strewn around... Rags, burnt-out bulbs, and a monkey wrench left behind... And of course, the usual mess—apple cores, candy wrappers, charred remains of the campfire, cans, bottles, somebody’s handkerchief, somebody’s penknife, torn newspapers, coins, faded flowers picked in another meadow".

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

This is actually the first time I've owned the entire album, though I've had at least half of it on other collections.

That damn Beach Boys thing.
A real mixed bag.
So far, the finished tracks are far less satisfying than the "session highlights".
