Are you in debt? (and that includes credit cards as well as overdrafts or other money borrowed)

Does it bother you?

I did owe lots for years, but finally paid it all off (with a little assist - not asked for, but gratefully accepted - from my parents). Interest charges are a bitch.

As of this writing, I owe nothing beyond what I've charged in the last month, and I can pay that off.

I'm not SAVING as much as I should be, mind.

One grand in the hole, felt a bit bad about it, then I got chatting to my friends who got caught up in the property boom in here Eire. One grand in the red ain't shit compared to most of those folks.

Nothing.

I don't like capitalist mortgages (USA-style), I don't like smartphones, and I don't like stealing music and movies via the web.

Which is also moral debt.

I am happy.

I owe a modest amount on two credit cards. By the end of this summer I'll have worked enough to pay the whole lot off. But should I?

Nope, not at all.
I have been for much of my adult life, but could always live with it.
We cleared all our debt when we sold our house in 2005 to go back into renting.

The only type that really bothers me, for some reason, is credit card debt - I suppose it's to do with the exhorbitant interest rates - so I try to keep mine at a $0 balance, and just paid it off this morning.

We've got a mortgage, but that's dealt with automatically every two weeks and I rarely think about it. It'll be nice when it's paid off, but we already own way more of our house than the bank does, so even if it were to all come crashing down around our ears we'd still be in decent shape. I think.

You're asking us??

FWIW credit card companies are vicious usurers, one step down from loan sharks, and of course you should pay them off

None.
I cut up my credit cards 20 years ago after a big fight with Barclaycard ( which they lost) and have managed without credit ever since, even if it has meant going without a lot of the things I might have bought. Now I am mortgage free and the world seems a much kinder place.

To be honest, I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when I turned 55 back in January. I've finally got that all tied up and, by the end of this very week, will be debt free for the first time in (probably) 15 years (with a small hiatus around 8 years ago for a couple of months). I'm paying off the credit card, hopefully getting back into the housing market by the end of the year, and sleeping at night again hopefully.

By the way - I blame no one but myself for this. I am quite simply a fucking arsehole with money. I need to get it away from me so I can't spend it (hence the property) because if I get one glimmer of an opportunity, I will. :D

I've got a bit of a mortgage, but it's not much, and I could pay it off if it were worth doing so. The wife's car was bought on a finance deal, which will take a few years to pay off, and I think I've got about £30 on my credit card. All of it's easily manageable and doesn't worry me at all. I'm more concerned about having enough money to pack it all in for a life of more-than-just-scraping-by in 20 years time when I retire. Here and now is ok.

Work out how many months it will take to clear it , look at how much interest they make and then imagine what you pay them being paid into another account and what you could do with that money , sobering. Well , it woke me up. They are a backup source credit cards.

I like paying for things and owning it , people buy stuff in sales on credit cards and end up paying more than when it was new . The interest charged is obscene , fuck all interest if you save and , being credit checked by algorithms , which , when the info on you is wrong means you are royally fucked.

I owe so much money.
Education is expensive when you do it the wrong way.
I know I should make paying it off a priority... but such a big number makes it less believable as a real thing.
