I saw him live around this time. I recall a fan jumped on stage and Howard bolted away from his keyboards in fear for a second or so before he realized he was in full view of the audience. He regained his composure soon enough but I laughed anyway.

The Modernist wrote:Hated it then and it barely sounds any better now. Difficult to say why it's so dislikable; something to do with the combination of its thin, cheap sounding production, the sound of those keyboards and the inane "positivity" of Mr Jones with his nasal vocal and children's tv presenter clothes. When he, Nik Kershaw and Kajagoogoo all had hits within about a month of each other you knew new pop was over. A SHIT then.
Except "Wouldn't It Be Good" was absolutely glorious! Much better than this piece of fuck.

I don't mind it, to be honest. It's good that Howard Jones ripped off a decent song, because his own stuff is dreadful.
HIT!
HIT!
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

Nope. It has a tune, and it's palatable to people who realise that The Hobbit isn't a documentary.
Still, no reason I should approve of it, given those boundaries, but I do.

New Song is shit but there was one of his singles I liked. Hide and Seek I think it was, a slow atmospheric ballady one.

What was the one he did at Live Aid - piano ballad type thing?
And whatever happened to Jed Hoyle?
