Beyond the majestic "Jesus Christ Pose", I was always disappointed with Soundgarden's output, they never followed up on that promise to my ears. But that's really not important here, another man with everything to live for gone far too soon. It's unexpected, and genuinely very sad.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Always a sad day when another rock icon dies.

RIP

I never was into the whole Grunge thing and the first Audioslave is the only thing I have.

Still, one more gone.

I was listening to his live album a couple months ago and played this song over and over a couple times. I got home, took a shower and learned it to this video. I always thought this was pretty prophetic to what he saw in his life.

He was not an unaware man.

From his first album - a beautiful song. His first album was a revelation and excellent from front to back. Lots of Beatles tricks in this one.

man, I listen to Soundgarden all the damned time. I never warmed so much to C.C. solo or anything after they got back together but I think that original run of Soundgarden albums is simply terrific.

I'm sort of shell shocked.

And apparently, it wasn't listed on the songlist and was played on the spur of the moment. They've played it before live, though.

Tragic. I believe today is the anniversary of the death of Ian Curtis, which may or may not be relevant.

But, "hanging by suicide"? Come on, people.

I was never a huge Soundgarden fan, I liked them but never followed them, although did buy Black Hole Sun. I did see them live at Reading Festival, mid 90's, they were very good.

But what I really liked Cornell for was his contributions to the Singles soundtrack (which is being re-released tomorrow.) 'Seasons' from that album is a stunner, one of my alltime favourite track. I love his voice on this.

This isnt the actual soundtrack version but still cool with band. His voice when it goes high midway through, (double tracked on the recorded version,) just gets me every time. One of "those" moments for me. R.I.P. Chris.

Like Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament, Cornell was a huge Seattle Supersonics fan and went on a rant when they moved to Oklahoma City and he saw someone wearing a Durant jersey in the crowd.

The Peal Jam boys were such big hoops fans that the first name of the band was Mookie Blaylock, named after a former point guard of the Atlanta Hawks.

I know. Similar suicides as well from two vocalists which were both massive influences in their respective music scenes. Pretty strange, especially the hanging part at his age, though.

I know right? It's not like it's their job to use the correct wording. Sheesh.

The fact that he took his own life has really just taken my breath away. If it's not too bad to say, I was "hoping" it was natural causes, or even an overdose. This is just awful.
