Specialty Civil War
A - not my idea of mellow, man, and all the better for it. Know nothing about this guy, but that's a ripe noise coming from the tenor man, and a fine piece of shouting from Mr Montrell. Nice. 6.5 / 10
B - I was wondering if we would see any big hitters in the final, considering the hatzing some of them got. With the call and response and vocal group, this verges towards early soul territory, and there's some tremendous saxing on this, but something is missing. Where is Penniman pounding piano? I miss him. 6 / 10

My favourite version of this is actually the Beatles version, but you can't deny Little Richard giving it a real holler. B
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

Indeed.
Yeah, maybe it's wrong to have silly rules about these things, but we've seen what happens when people don't vote carefully.
Anyway, nothing against Richard, but this has TWO strikes - it flouts both the "covered by a famous rock band" (better, in this case, imo) rule and the "known song by a known artist" one. If A sucked that would be one thing, but it's great - wild, untamed R&B played and sung with unbridled enthusiasm. And most refreshingly, considering all the LR copying that's gone on, it doesn't really sound like him.

A Specialty battle! Wonderful stuff. Montrell was a studio legend in New Orleans, playing guitar on hundreds of other people's records but only ever cutting a couple of his own. A shame, because this one is just brilliant.

I must confess I had never heard B and it has pleasantly surprised me, partly because I have always found the Beatles take one of the low points in For Sale. I could have voted for it had it not been paired with such a great opponent. Sorry

Much as I hate to vote against Little Richard, this isn't his best.
A for me.
