Either that or some 'wag' is having a laugh with their aliases...
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

Thanks Kate!

The BCB socialist crew will be outraged!

Almost the same here. I'm voting for my local opposition to my MP.
I'm not in the constituencies of any of the above.

You should turn up but spoil your ballot.

I think he should vote Labour - if nothing else it adds to the overall countrywide percentage - and fuck knows they need all the help they can get!

That's endorsing the system though, and adding to turnout. Aside from which, a 'spoiled ballot' always makes it sound like you tried to vote, but weren't capable of writing an X.

People shouldn't have to vote if they don't want to. It's like going to a shop that has nothing you want, yet you are compelled to buy something anyway.

I am tempted this time, especially since the policies that are emerging are generally good ones (and easy to promise when you know you're not going to win), and my local MP, Lisa Nandy, appears to be doing a reasonable job. But it's a matter of principle, really. The voting system stinks, and I won't be a part of it.

I live in a safe SNP seat. I will be spoiling my ballot.

The issue is that politicians don't really give a flying one about spoiled ballots and low turnouts. If those genuinely registered as protest at the shabby fare on offer then people who don't vote might have a defence, but as it is a failure to vote is a waste really.
I think people should pass a test to vote though. Identify the parties' policies on five different issues or something.

Re: who are you going to vote for?
I just checkout our County and District Council results from last week.
In the County Council vote the two tories won - no surprise there. In the district council vote it was a straight choice between a tory and a Liberal. The Liberal won by about 100 votes (1045 to 965 to be precise).
There were at least three 'progressive' groups on the CC ballot (Labour, LD and Green plus the Independent who was quite progressive too if anybody had bothered to look), so if everyone had voted tactically for one 'progressive they could have taken down the tories with ease as there was no UKIP or other batshit nazi option to balance the equation.
Sadly this being the West Country, the Liberals would have had to be that leading 'progressive' option.

I respect your reasoning as it is sound and sincere, but despite how limited our democracies (UK / US) have become, I still feel you should vote. Universal suffrage is one of the few good things oridinary people have fought and died for. You can look at it as endorsing a corrupt system or whatever, but that is a luxury. My vote is consistently worthless, but I always feel a bit better after casting it.
Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.
