Justice at last for the Lennon one!

Trump-esque.

Brydon makes him sound like Sly Stallone.

Steve Ricks is better than both.

Yes, definitely.

Talented fellas. Especially if that was unplanned/unscripted.

The Barry Gibb is superb though!

I enjoyed the first series but I've not seen this one.

I don't remember seeing the Barry Gibb the first time around - just watched it and I'm in fucking hysterics.

Worth watching the series altho' some people say it's 'just' more of the same. But that'll do me.

McCartney had the better melodies, more diverse range as a singer and stronger songwriting. Also, he was less of a cunt than Lennon.

There's that bit where he's explaining his Freedom song to Clapton - "it's just two chords, back and forth, you should be able to handle that, what with your remedial skills and all" or whatever condescending thing he said - and Clapton's just biting his tongue so he doesn't look like a prat while the cameras are rolling. (Besides which, McCartney was right, even if he was being snide about it.) I can't find it on youtube now, but the one with Townshend is even better:

McCartney: "...your average Yank - 'I want FREEEEE-DUMB!' - you know..."

Townshend (thought balloon): "And people think I'm the biggest wanker in rock'n'roll."

And NO ONE has the guts to call him out. EVER. Because he's Paul McCartney, and you're not. He's gonna dine out on that whole Beatles thing until the end of time, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Every time he puts out new music, no one gets excited, they're just relieved when it rises to sub-mediocrity, that's how bad he is now. I bet he revels in telling stories about how he asks band members for their honest opinion, then firing them on the spot when they give it. That moment when you win the audition to join McCartney's touring band and tell all your friends, followed by that moment when you're at the first rehearsal and he calls out for Biker Like An Icon. He knows it sucks, he knows YOU know it sucks, and he's just waiting for you to fake some enthusiasm while stifling your dismay.

Wouldn't surprise me if he sets out to write bad music intentionally just to poke at everyone. Even when he does something good, he figures out a way to muck it up. I found a clip of him doing Every Night in concert, so I thought, cool, I like that song, let's check it out. When they get to the chorus, he throws in some mega-cheesy lounge chord, when it was just fine the way it was. He's not a dumb guy, he's got to be screwing with us.

Oh, and a friend of mine who writes for tv told me that he had a conversation a while back with a fellow tv writer. Both of them have worked on variety shows with musical guests, and they were swapping war stories. My friend asked him who, of all the musicians he's dealt with, is the biggest jerk. Without a thought, he immediately said, "Oh, that's easy - Paul McCartney." But, but... he seems so nice! "Exactly - he SEEMS nice." You can well imagine how he really is with all the peasants he deals with behind the scenes. At least with Lennon, you knew what you were getting. If he was a prick, well, that's him. If he was civil, well, you caught him on a good day, don't push your luck. But watching McCartney interact with Clapton and Townshend really summed it up for me. At least it's good for a few laughs. "Average Yank" -

"Quite."
