Greatest Album of 1966
Instead of going to 1971, let's go back a year (we started in '67) to '66. Choose up to ten.

Didn't the Stones have one this year?
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

FUCK!! Just mention it here then. But only pick nine.
It's Aftermath, by the way.

Your omission reveals a glaring lack of '60s rock knowledge. I can no longer trust these polls of yours.

Sorry, I had to make room for The Monkees.

Re: Greatest Album of 1966
I might not have voted for Aftermath anyway, as I had to vote for the three obvious ones, and wanted to get some more eccentric choices in as well. Anyway, I voted for the big three - Revolver, PS and BoB, plus Ochs, Jansch, Buckley, Yardbirds, and the Music Machine. Of the many 'canon' choices I went with the Byrds and Kinks, leaving some great records - Cream, Love, Who, and Springfield - as runners-up. Not as good as the two years that followed, but pretty great.

Re: Greatest Album of 1966
Roughly in order ...
Pet Sounds - one of the best albums of all time; a very talented man's masterpiece
Fifth Dimension - a personal favorite to the point of being the sound of the inside of my head
A Quick One - kind of a perfect place for them
Revolver - yeah of course yeah
Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme - could be the most accomplished album here barring 'Pet Sounds' maybe
Love - a favorite
Face to Face - still coming around to this one
Aftermath (US version) - one of their best; not sure I like the original UK as much
Freak Out - his best probably, and the only one you don't have to be "into Zappa" to appreciate
Blonde on Blonde - still getting into this one

Initial impressions: So if Revolver is the consensus choice as best Beatles album, why is it not number one (of course, I'm sure it will be soon). Where are all the Small Faces fans?

Fang!
I remember the puns that flew with our mutual friend that just re-issued it - "he really cut his teeth on that album" "those were quite biting songs," etc.

Not much here for me, unsurprisingly, just Phil Ochs out in front pursued by Simon & Garfunkel & Simon & Garfunkel. What a quartet they were.
I'm also surprised Black Monk Time wasn't present, though I'm not sure I'd have voted for it.

I would love it if they released the '66 mono tapes of that LP on CD. You can't get it anywhere. All that's available are the '69 stereo tapes.

I think that must have been the actual best album of the year, hands down.

Brilliant and truly innovative release from Coltrane. Some of his finest moments are found on that album.
