Elton John - he's made some great records I wouldn't want to be without.
Michael Oldfield - no real opinion.
Weather Report - negative impression, but no opinion.
Cocksparrer - never heard of that
Mekons - tremendous goodwill and affection. Would travel to see them, but don't really play their records. Hell, I don't really HAVE their records.
Divinyls - I remember that song, which was ok I guess.
Willie Nelson - overrated in Texas, underrated everywhere else.
Pussy Galore - better than Jon Spencer Blues
Sisters of Mercy - no opinion
Nina Hagen - no opinion
Kim Carnes - I remember her voice. No opinion.
Joan Armatrading - no opinion, negative general impression
INXS - I enjoy the occasional song on the radio.
Foghat - long version of "Slow Ride" may be the greatest thing ever. I've never bothered with the rest, but probably should.
White Denim - I think I heard a song I didn't hate once

Elton John - Obviously some great stuff

Michael Oldfield - I like reading his interviews more than listening to his music

Divinyls - Amusing to see everyone referring to "that song" when they've had numerous hits besides "I Touch Myself". I enjoyed a lot of their work and Chrissy Amphlett is sorely missed

Willie Nelson - I don't dislike him, I like that Pearl Jam cover he did with his son.

Kim Carnes - I like "Crazy In The Night"

Joan Armatrading - Good to hear on an Awesome 80s weekend on your local classic hits station.

INXS - About as funky as a block of cement. Overrated as fuck, a couple good songs, and a lot of lameness.

Elton John : Like some of his material, but find his voice mannered and jarring
Michael Oldfield : Excellent musician, but veers between genius and up his own ...
Weather Report : Technical brilliance, colder than a fridge
Cocksparrer : Oi ! No interest
Mekons : Unfamiliar with their work
Divinyls : Great single
Willie Nelson : Love his voice, a law unto himself.
Pussy Galore ; Riot girrrrls, don't own anything by them
Sisters of Mercy : Capable of brilliance, but never been a goth fan
Nina Hagen : Know the name
Kim Carnes : One hit wonder
Joan Armatrading : Saw her live. Zzzzzzzzzzz
INXS : Of their time. Couple of good songs
Foghat : 2nd division boogie band
White Denim : Probably my fave on the list. Love 'em.

Armatrading's a strange one. She went from being a sort of second-rate earnest singer-songwriter type to a producer of total pap like this in just a couple of years:

Elton John - I own one single by him and I haven't played it in decades.
Michael Oldfield - Threw away countless royalty checks by only ever writing three songs.
Weather Report - Others did it better.
Cocksparrer - You made that up.
Mekons - Didn't they make around 100 albums? I've never heard one.
Divinyls - They dress funny.
Willie Nelson - Wrote some amazing songs. Made some amazing records. Smells like weed.
Pussy Galore - Never heard them.
Sisters of Mercy - Never met Mercy or her sisters.
Nina Hagen - Did she do that balloon song? I hate that song.
Kim Carnes - I think I own the Bette Davis Eyes 45. I promise to play it the next time I play my Elton John 45.
Joan Armatrading - Fast Cars? I kinda remember that.
INXS - Not enough letters.
Foghat - Bell bottoms and boogie. I'd rather listen to Canned Heat, I suppose.
White Denim - I used to have a pair but I lost weight and gave them away.

Elton John - great for most of the 70s, intermittently good since
Michael Oldfield - great for the 1st 4 albums, haven't ben impressed by the little I've heard after that
Weather Report - great but were descending into blandness by the last couple of albums, went gradually downhill as Wayne Shorter became less involved
Cocksparrer - not familiar
Mekons - only know one early song which I quite like
Divinyls - not familiar
Willie Nelson - he's OK, has a quirkily enjoyable singing voice and has written a few half decent songs but I don't get why he's so revered
Pussy Galore - not familiar
Sisters of Mercy - haven't heard much, bit heavy on the bombast for my tastes
Nina Hagen - the German Lene Lovich but not as good
Kim Carnes - never liked the song Bette Davis's Eyes, haven't heard anything else
Joan Armatrading - I bought a double CD best of and was underwhelmed, less depth than I'd expected
INXS - OK in small doses
Foghat - not familiar
White Denim - not familiar
turn on, tune in, nod off

The ones I am familiar with

Elton John – he’s done some very good stuff but I rarely listen to him. Taupins lyrics annoy me sometimes but Eltons melodic gift usually shines through
Michael Oldfield – I was a BIG Oldfield fan in my young teens bizarrely. Five Miles Out was my favourite. Tubular Bells is a stunning achievement, especially considering his age.
INXS – New Sensation is a great pop song. Nothing else they did quite comes close but you could put together a decent greatest hits type compilation

I'm no Willie partisan, but it's worth pointing out that that he's written "a few" bona fide, country hits/classics: "Funny How Time Slips Away," "Crazy," "Hello Walls," "Night Life," "Pretty Paper." And that's before you begin with the songs he's known for singing himself.

I loathe "Bette Davis Eyes."

Of which only the first two titles have lodged themselves in my memory despite trying various of his albums over the years and playing The Essential Willie Nelson fairly recently. Which backs up what I'm saying really, I don't see why these (presumably) pleasant but unmemorable (to me) songs are considered classics.

Elton John - Music for the elderly. Seems like a nice bloke but I don't like his dreadful voice. I can just about tolerate Yellow Brick Road.

Michael Oldfield - My parents had TB. I liked it as a little nipper and still do in parts. I like bits of his later work and I think he has a very distinctive style which is to be admired.

Weather Report :?: fusion?

Cocksparrer :?: Oi nazis?

Mekons - Something to do with The Three Johns? I liked The Three Johns. :?

Divinyls - nope.

Willie Nelson - Smokes weight.

Pussy Galore - Big in the 90s?

Sisters of Mercy - Their drum machine was Doctor Avalanche!

Nina Hagen - Squawking German?

Kim Carnes - i like her song for that none more 80s guitar sound. Not mad keen on her voice.

Joan Armatrading - Married to Leslie Judd ;)

INXS - Shite. . One idea spread very thin. They are the band that good bands turn into when they have run out of ideas and think getting a bit funky would be a laugh. Singer wanked himself to death, which is quite an achievement.

Foghat - They have the dubious honour of supplying the easiest tune on Guitar Hero.

White Denim - If I have ever heard them, I can't say they made any impression.
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

Because they were major, iconic hits for different people and are considered part of the classic country music canon ... standards.

Elton John - Love a bit of old Elton once in a while.
Michael Oldfield - I like his guitar playing and bass playing on others' stuff, but think his own stuff is a tad overrated.
Weather Report - I can dig it. A little bit.
Cocksparrer - All the old punks go on about these guys but I've never heard 'em.
Mekons - Probably should be more in my wheelhouse, but ho hum...
Divinyls - Yeah, I guess.
Willie Nelson - I like Willie.
Pussy Galore - Fashion rock.
Sisters of Mercy - Don't really know 'em.
Nina Hagen - Screechy
Kim Carnes - Dunno.
Joan Armatrading - I've seen her name my whole life but couldn't name you a single tune.
INXS - Dreadful
Foghat - Fun
White Denim - Don't know their music.

Good
Elton John - if you ignore the rubbish (of which there is undoubtedly a lot), and concentrate on the mainly great 70s stuff, he's head and shoulders above the rest here
INXS - again, caveats abound but their greatest hits is surprisingly good
Willie Nelson - like his crooning and he's clearly a "great" but I'm not all that familiar
White Denim - they're a bit sweaty but I like them in small doses

Ok
Mekons - only know Where Were You, which is great, but can't comment further
Sisters Of Mercy - cheesy stadium goth but has its moments

No
Joan Armatrading - Rubbish, from what I've heard
Mike Oldfield - I just have a prog blind spot despite having a grudging admiration for TB

Not familiar but strongly suspect not for me
The rest
