The only reason they have any sway at the moment is because Ed Miliband completely fucked up the electoral system for the leadership. Effectively burying Labour for the next twenty years.

Care to explain further? I would appreciate it.

Over educated under achievers. people who think they know better. The condescending tone of the left is unbearable.

this should explain the voting calamity

Of course, Osborne should resign as an MP immediately. How can someone who is subject to the demands of party political, parliamentary discipline be an impartial editor of a newspaper? The notion of the freedom and independence of the Press is being turned on its head.

History will look back on Cameron and Osborne as the most self-serving, dilettante politicians that have ever held office. As much as I detest Tony Blair, at least he had left office before he embarked on his money grubbing enterprises.

Okay - what was factually incorrect about my post, that warranted the needlessly personal response from you first?

And I'm the silly, tedious etc etc. Get over your anti-IRA paranoia and stop suggesting that left wingers support the IRA as par for the course.

Diamond Dog wrote:It's all a ploy I reckon - in fortnight or so we'll get his resignation speech in the Commons, saying something like "Whilst I believed I was able to do both jobs, I am mindful of my constituents who have expressed their concerns - and, for that reason alone, I shall resign as MP from (date after their next fortnight sojourn at Easter)"...... then it will be him doing every one else a favour, see?

In the main I'd agree with this. I'd be surprised if he kept both jobs. And it's not as if, with an 18,000 majority, it's a marginal seat

He'll be back though I'm sure at some point because he's not tainted with defeat over Brexit quite like Cameron is. If you read "All Out War" by Tim Shipman, which is a superb book on the events of Brexit, Osborne throughout it pretty much told Cameron that they were going to lose if he called a referendum and that he didn't need to do it.

"Hard left"

Since when has a mild Keynsian, mixed economy approach been 'hard left'?

When you actually look at what Corbyn is proposing it is all very reasonable - many policies are even popular with tories (re-nationalising rail for one).
I've been talking about writing a book - 25 years of TEFL - for a few years now. I've got it in me.

Even back in the day, any support for the IRA was confined to its aims (a united Ireland) and utterly rejected its methods. I think the worst they did was suggest that there should be dialogue - which of course was happening all the time between Sinn Fein and the Thatcher government anyway.

The right does steer away from the sneering condescension of the left. See in particular the tone adopted by every single SNP member of Parliament. It is almost as if they are a primary school teacher, scolding the class. See also the patronising simpering of Dianne Abbott and Emily Thornberry. Two of the ruling metropolitan elite only too happy to belittle a working man.

Yeah, I haven't noticed any substantive talk of workers taking control of their places of employment or redistribution of the monarchy's wealth.
