Val Kilmer
So what ever happened to this guy? One of those rare pretty boys who could actually act (Kevin Spacey said he wanted to attend Chatsworth High School because Kilmer attended). Great in The Doors, Tombstone, and Heat. A few interesting performances/films besides those (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Salton Sea, Real Genius). Then he got fat.
A wasted career? Talent unrealized? He never even got an oscar nod. Probably as good an actor as Mickey Rourke.
What say you?

Val is notorious for being difficult to work with..Once you get that "Sean Young" kind of rep, it's difficult to get away from it..Earned or not, this might be why he has been relegated to the underbelly of the industry since around 2005 (When he did 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang')...

I don't know why you'd start a thread on him, to be perfectly honest. A handful of so-so performances in so-so films.
Can we talk about Treat Williams instead? Or John Vernon?

I liked Treat Williams in Hair, he was in Once Upon a Time in America too but didn't make much of an impression. John Vernon, the guy from Animal House?
I dunno, I used to like Val Kilmer, but things never quite worked out for him.

Re: Val Kilmer
There was talk about Kilmer having cancer over the last few years - but he denies it. Judging from some of the pictures at the time, it seems possible that some health struggle had some part of his absence. But there have been recent photos of him looking better - so who knows. I'm not actually a guy who follows shit like that. Not sure why I even know this much.
Regarding Treat Williams...all talk of his value as an actor must begin and end with Prince of the City - a forgotten 70s classic (if such a thing still exists).

Him, yeah! He was absolutely wonderful in that.
And have you seen Point Blank, Matt? Fucking A-grade film.

Re: Val Kilmer
The last film ever shown at my old local cinema, where I used to go twice a week, was Val Kilmer's The Saint. It wasn't really worthy of the occasion. I can't think of a film I've enjoyed that he's been in, other than Top Secret, and I very much doubt I'd enjoy that sober.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

He was good in'Heat', not that the role was too demanding.

OMG. yes! I'd forgotten about that. I own it too. Probably my favorite film with Lee Marvin as a leading man. Still don't think Vernon really stands out though. He's in Outlaw Josie Wales as well.

When I think of him, I think cheesy 80's stuff like...Top Secret!, Real Genius and Willow.
I never understood his appeal.

Was shooting commercials in Australia about 20 years ago and a bunch of the sparks and chippies on the crew we were using had been up to Papua New Guinea to shoot Island of Dr Moreau. They all said that VK was a cunt of the highest order and played a major role in getting director, John Frankenheimer kicked off the picture

An old elementary school friend of mine acted with him in a small, independent film about 10 years ago.
I liked him in Tombstone and he was fun in the Saint.
