This was great, Min!! Thanks for inviting us.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Thanks for this Min.
I was very impressed when I saw him in 2004, that he was doing a pretty good chunk of material from his most recent ten years or so of records, and I liked pretty much everything he was doing, some of it was really great. He was clearly a keen editor/ curator of his own catalog.
So yeah I'd agree there's great stuff to be found in the later records. A lot of it can be found by compiling the songs performed on that tour, or listening to the live recordings. His band was really good that year. In fact I remember "Blue Jean" being an unexpected highlight.

I've been filing my CDs alphabetically today and tidying them up. I dug around in all the CD cases and it said Heathen came with a multimedia show. I put it in the drive and it took me to a long since dead page with just Bowie's head bobbing up and down. All a bit weird.

I tried 'Outside' again today, that was a mistake.

Well, as someone who thinks Bowie’s post 80’s output was largely mediocre I have to step in and defend Outside. It was his first album for ages that I felt he had stopped second guessing his audience. It probably also helped that I was totally oblivious to the industrial (?) genre. So rightly or wrongly it sounded pretty fresh to me.
That said it is too long and could do with 20 minutes or so being removed. The narrative interludes should have stayed on the Leon suites and why he chose to redo the dull Strangers When We Meet in much the same arrangement as the original was odd.
Still, for me Heart’s Filthy Lesson, Voyeur of Utter Destruction and the mighty Thru These Architect’s Eyes all rank with his best work from the 70’s.
Horses for courses I guess.

If only the whole of Tonight could have been as good as Loving The Alien and Blue Jean. It's a shame much of the album is naff, because the cover art promises great things. I remember sitting up late one night to see the video film for Blue Jean...it was quite brilliant.

Much the same playlist as mine Conny ... I’d swap Spaceboy for A Small Plot of Land.
I always maintain that Blue Jean was the moment I realised the game was up for Bowie. It is indeed one of the better tracks from Tonight, but hardly on a par with his best work. And he went on to spend so much time promoting this slight minor track. Oh well.

I like Outside - the whole shootin’ match but I can’t help but marvel at that list of songs. I know I’m some kind of weirdo but there’s no denying some real solid tracks there. I love the damned thing. I think Bowie’s vocals are uniformly de-voone.

I have been reading through this whole thread for about a week and so far it's had me go back and revisit Slow Burn, Everyone Says Hi and the Young Americans album which I don't think was the point at all....
But last night I had a proper listen to Blackstar for the first time and it's a stunning piece of work. Maybe one or two tracks had percusssion that was a bit OTT for my delicate tastes but otherwise what a strong way to bow out!

I can just about handle you driving like a pissed up crackhead and treating women like beanbags but I'm gonna say this once and once only Gene, stay out of Camberwick Green!

Man, I absolutely love “the voyeur of utter destruction as beauty”. I could listen to that one 5 times in a row.

Gave Outside another spin when running this morning and still couldn't get with it. I see people raving about it daily - I don't know what I'm not getting.
