A bit skimpy compared to the Five Years box which had 6 albums plus extras. I was hoping the second set would also include 6 albums and include up to Lodger. They obviously want to milk it now especially after his death.

It makes sense, from a marketing standpoint, to have a separate "Berlin Trilogy" set, I think.

It's been available for a while called Ziet.

Zeit! ;-)
Not the same, as these new box sets are mostly new remastered versions.
The Zeit box was the EMI remasters, 1999 (awful sound)
So, let's hope for new masters of the Berlin era :-)

Given the padding on the new box. God knows what they'll dig up for the next set.

The zeit box is under twenty quid, how much for next one?

The Five Years box was a really nice set aside from some gripes about the "Japanese style" mini-sleeves (Japanese style, NOT Japanese quality) so I'm hoping the new sets will be equally as good with nice remastering. I bet they won't be cheap though. I will be getting them regardless as I have non of the albums on CD.

I'm listening to Jarvis Cocker's Sunday Service on Radio 6. This week he was talking to Paul Morley about his new Bowie book.
Morley seems to polarise opinion and I'm not sure that I like or dislike him really, and I'm not sure what I will make of the book if I get it but it's been nice listening to the two of them bantering and playing music.
I'm a bit torn about something Morley has just been discussing - that there was a great joy about the 'spectacular energy' that was released on the day that he died, and that this somehow fulfilled his most passionate desire to be superhuman as he became even more vibrant, important and immortal on that day just by not being there.
I completely understand what he says as a concept to mull over, but I'm far from convinced that as he lay dying he nudged Iman in the ribs, winking, saying 'don't be sad love, this'll slay 'em!' I want to believe very badly that he had found that kind of peace but I think believing that is just a way of me making me feel better.

It's an interesting show anyway, go and listen.

They're playing Absolute Beginners now, I may as well write the rest of the day off.

His death worked as a desensitising agent for the rest of a shitty year though, without him any combination of this years events might have resulted in revolution.

I see Terry Wogan died.

Aw, bless. David Bowie's dead.

Did you hear about Victoria Wood?

I know, she was great. David Bowie's dead.

Fucking Ali man!

Such an icon. David Bowie's dead.

The cunts have done it! We're out of Europe and face 10 more years of austerity and division.

That's nice. David Bowie's dead.

Which is about the right price for it. I was given it as a present as I am far from a fan of Morley. Suprisingly the first portion of the book is quite a good read. For a start he makes sense. Also I'm roughly the same age so it's interesting to hear his memories of Bowie's rise to fame.
Where the book falls down, catastrophically in my opinion, is in the post RCA years. He tacitally acknowledges that they are not very interesting by spending a chapter on every year of the 70's and then skipping through the rest of Bowie's career. But his point that the crap albums Bowie released in this period were all some sort of conceptual masterplan is just laughable.
Paul ... sometime a s**t album isn't an artistic response to changing times, it's just a s**t album.
Actually £6 is too much ... £1.50 from a charity bookshop is all you should pay.
