Cheers Chris, even with P&P costing almost as much, I couldn't resist...

Thanks guys - hope you enjoy.

For jazz and soul lovers in London, you should be aware that Fopp have hundreds of titles in the Warners Japanese 1000 Yen reissues series all going for three quid each.

Here is some information on the jazz CDs:

http://www.marlbank.net/news/944-1000-y ... -mid-price
http://www.warnerjazz.co.uk/jazz100
http://www.marlbank.net/news/1486-50-mo ... march.html

There are also some soul cds in a related series, I did not really see anything I did not have, and cannot find a substantive list, but they definitely had at least several of these titles:

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/newrelease/dan ... =2014-1-29

Note that these are 'ersatz' Japanese releases, made legitimately by Warners (I think) in the EU, and with the obi thing, and liner notes in Japanese. But at least one review I found states that the mastering is the same but the packaging is more extensive on the Made In Japan versions.

The ones I got - Miles Davis, John Scofield, Donald Byrd, The Section, Ornette Coleman, Keith Jarrett and Freddie Hubbard all sound terrific. But I put back a whole load of iffy 'fusion' jazz from the 70's and 80's, and Spotify tells me I was wise.

Whatever floats your boat, but some of that fusion/smooth jazz stuff where a guy who made essential Blue Note LPs in the 60s gets funky and brings in the backing vocalists while singing a few tunes is strictly a no sale as far as I go.

And be aware that in some cases if you get one of those classic Miles/Coltrane/Ornette Coleman reissues in this series, you ain't getting the booklet that comes with the regular version.

I've paid £6.51 for the Be Bop set. Even at the higher price, I couldn't resist it.

I received my copy of this today, bought from someone in the UK. I already had scored the US double 7" but I couldn't pass up this. Total with shipping came to just shy of 20 bucks. The real bonus is it is signed by Shorty Rogers. Already framed and hanging in my office.
Oh boy is it getting rough, when my old world charm isn't quite enough.

Superdeluxeedition have posted this bargain on amazon italy. 19cd Aretha Atlantic box set for €34 / £26. Its £55 on amazon.uk site. Tempting! (just checked, works out £28.30 inc shipping to UK.)

http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/deal/ ... tion-19cd/

Ridiculously good deal on Amazon Italy this morning for the recently released Aretha Franklin Atlantic Albums Collection box set.

This 19CD box is only €35 or around £25 which is an incredible £30 saving over the current UK price of £55. Also consider that this set is $90 in the USA but with tax deducted this Italian price equates to $32 plus shipping.

I couldn't resist that one either... with free postage (one advantage of sharing borders with Germany, France and Italy) and deducted tax, I ended up paying just € 28.50!

By now, the price has gone up to € 63 again. :|

cheap, but the remasters sound worse than the originals. The ones I've heard sounded dull so you lose the sparkle on the guitar and Siouxsie sounds too low in the mix. I bought The Scream when it came out and returned it, pronto.
