Yeah or, "The stuff Coan likes, guitars and poetry".

In the lunch hour of that Monday we must've sold 200 copies of the damn thing and throughout the rest of that week they all came back as the bespoke orange-tinted CD tray in each one was brittle enough to lose teeth at the slightest touch and the replacement black ones we had just didn't have the necessary modish allure. God dammit REM.

I have no idea what the fuck you are on about.

I disliked Monster at the time but I think it's aged really well actually.

The orange cd tray here y'see. each one fucked and needing like-for-like replacements which we didn't have. 200 refunds later...

Not the greatest story I'd agree.

'far off Eastern European country'? Don't let THEM hear you saying that!

This REM video means a lot to me. Mainly 'cos it reminds me of the Prague of old, which I enjoyed very much 20 years ago through a permanently-drunken haze (and usually with a local girl).

There's something, I dunno, feral about a woman with armpit hair.

Did she have hairy oxsters, John?

Prague in the 90s? Like Paris in the 20s. A more beery sort of decadence, tho'. I think most of you would have been naughtier than me, actually.

One of these days I'll write my book.

He's only saying there were bad moments so he can say there were great ones, and it's a facile wrap-up like the kind of thing rock stars say when they get older, as if they've really learned something in all the years. When often the lapses in taste are the good parts. I don't think Stipe actually feels one thing is better than another. He's just saying what he thinks he should (or shouldn't if he wants to be the contrary edgy artist). But don't get me started! :D

That bit where he is just singing "The One I Love" and going down to commune with the fans in front was good.

Bought Chronic Town in the spring of 83 played Lower, Wolves, GAN and Carnival of Sorts to death and saw them open for The Police and Joan Jett at Shea Stadium, That fall started college at Univ of Maine and was playing the album and this guy walks into the room saying they are playing in two weeks and if I wanted to help setup. It was my college friends theme music for the first few years, After that saw REM at least once on every tour thru UP. Always surprised they got so big.

Went thru so many eras of REM hard these days to pin down my favorite we play about 9 of their albums on shuffle these days plus a few live.
These days I would order them this way

Fables of the Reconstruction
Lifes Rich Pageant
Reckoning
Murmur
Document
Monster
Out of Time
New Adventures in Hi-Fi
Automatic for the People
Green

Also glad I caught them on the final tour with guest Johnny Marr
