If you could choose...
You can either:
A) Die young, but be remembered and universally loved as a great and inspirational person.
Or
B) Live a long, healthy life with no undo strife, but be reviled for years to come as one of the planet's most despicable people ever for something you did that is uncovered after your death.
Which?

How young is young? This is a difficult choice. When I'm dead it shouldn't matter to me what people think, but to have the reputation of a monster after I am gone is not an attractive idea.

Bit late for any of us to die young, isn't it?

On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Well, A. I don't want to be a person who would do something the whole world will remember as despicable for years.

Presumably if you were an evil dictator you wouldn't see your acts as wrong. Everybody else would be wrong. So their opinion wouldn't be valid to you and not bother you in any way.

Maybe it's like that Star Trek episode where they had to go back in time to stop Joan Collins' character from doing something positive that ended up having the negative repercussion of Hitler ruling the world!

Live long.
And no matter what they say after I'm dead. I did NOT kill those 47 people. Just ask my lawyer.

Worst chat up line I've ever heard.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

You don't actually get to do it. You are just widely regarded as having done it, but didn't actually do it.
