Mott the Hoople
I remember seeing them back in 1969 on John Peel's In Concert Show at the Paris Studios London.
I remember talking to this curly haired bloke with a Dr Who-type scarf for about 20 minutes whilst standing in the front of the queue - I had no idea who he was...
Anyway, they only made one decent album - didn't they...?
And all that glam-stuff was absolute nonsense - wasn't it...?
So to recap:
They only made one decent album - didn't they...?
All that glam-stuff was absolute nonsense - wasn't it...?

Which one do you mean? (I must have missed the previous threads.)

Keep up Jim-lad
Yes, keep up!
Don't you recall the last Mott the Hoople thread I started in April 2007 when I stated, quite categorically I might add, that the eponymous debut was the only robust album they made?
Don't you recall..?

Re: Mott the Hoople
No, all of their albums are pretty good except for the last one.
So that's...what? Four good pre-glam era albums, and two good ones that don't sound terribly dated by the mild glam trappings, I think.

Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

I think Mott is their best as an album, but "Half Moon Bay" (from the first) is one of their best pieces, no question.

How would you like to be remembered? Oh I don't know. I suppose if we are remembered as a great little rock and roll band it would be fine.........

This fellow might just have a point.[/quote] Yes well it is always nice when someone here talks about a album that you forgot about. I have the LP perhaps my burner friend could make me a copy!

Stephen, you know I adore you and hang on your every word.
But it's true - you keep saying "They only made one decent album - didn't they...?" and everyone disagrees, then you wait a while and try again...

He's just stirring us up. Easier than actually listening to any of the other records!

C - didn't you chat with Ian Hunter once? I'd be curious to hear the story...
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Re: Mott the Hoople
I love all three phases of Mott:
1) their 69-71 hard rock dylan phase
2) '72 -74 glam gospel phase
3) 75-76 proto AC/DC phase

It's kinda depressing for a music forum to be proud of not knowing musicians.

Well I also like Wild Life, though it's a very different side to the band, and at least the first two glam albums. So ner!

I've got the glam stuff, which I really like. I've never bothered with the early stuff, although I am intrigued. I thought the later stuff was meant to be poor?
