The pressures of work - Question 3 - taking work home

Postby beenieman » 13 Jun 2012, 02:50

A series (just 5) of poll questions on the above.

I'm interested in our work habits etc
One night, an evil spirit held me down
I could not make one single sound
Jah told me, 'Son, use the word'
And now I'm as free as a bird

Almost every day, but I am allowed to work at home when it makes sense to do so.

Never. I come into office most Sundays and get to work around 6am though.

Only when it's something urgent that crops when I'm already home. I long ago realised that work and family do not mix and try my best to completely switch off from work as soon as I get home.

I work from home so the issue for me is going out. Have lost count of the number of times clients expect you to go to their office to take briefs for jobs whose budgets barely cover the taxi fare there and back never mind the time involved.

I'm planning on going in on Saturday to do some stuff, but I never bring it home.

My business partner resolutely refuses to learn how to turn a computer on, so I do online banking, paying bills and stock ordering from home.

Yep - my office is a virtual one for the most part so I always do a little something at home. Sometimes it's usually responding to e-mails, maybe drafting a motion or evening phone consultation.

I find certain jobs are much easier and enjoyable from home, such as payroll, banking, and P&L's. Oftimes I will leave for the afternoon to do this so I am still doing during the hours I would normally be at work and I still have to answer calls from all the stores.
Oh boy is it getting rough, when my old world charm isn't quite enough.

As I work from home when I don't need to on the road I answered 'Every Day', but in reality it depends on where we are in the work cycle.

I generally carry some work home, just in case I get bored.

I live alone.

A few times a year I make copies of a trial record and take it home to read. Slightly more often, I'll come to my office at night or on the weekend.

Only occasionally. It's difficult because:

1) we have the most stringent confidentiality/data protection stuff going on.

2) I can't access a lot of the stuff I need from home. If I do take stuff home, it tends to be paper-based, like bankruptcy paperwork etc.

3) If I do bring work home, it inevitably goes back to the office, "embellished" with muddy cat paw prints.

Every day 3 voters 12%
2-3 times a week 5 voters 19%
Only when absolutely necessary 10 voters 38%
Never 8 voters 31%

That's 26 voters which is 3 less than responded to Question 2.

A recent NZ poll (in the NZ Listener) had the following results:

Every day 15%
2-3 times a week 17%
Only when absolutely necessary 40%
Never 28%

Hmmmmm...
