It's kinda depressing for a music forum to be proud of not knowing musicians.

Roxy Music! Of course.
Well, as far as I'm concerned that's it settled. You can fuss and fight all you want about the longhairs and the leftovers.

Believe me, by the looks of our showing, us Americans would have KILLED for a Led Zeppelin.
Of course it's them.

I mean there's another few on that list that are dubious but TG ?? You're taking the piss surely.
Not at all. I love TG. I might be the only one on BCB who does but I don't care.

It's one of these four:
Roxy Music
Led Zeppelin
Sex Pistols
Clash
any other suggestions are silly.

symbolically The Clash and Pistols are nice, but artistically they can't stand with the other two

Yes, that's fair.
Re: best British band of the 70s
Artistically The Clash can certainly stand with Led Zep. Why couldn't they?
Re: best British band of the 70s
I probably prefer the Clash's peaks, but they weren't at all consistent and pissed about unconvincingly in several genres.
Led Zeppelin managed almost as many good years as the Beatles, and I think it's inarguable that there are more great songs in their back catalogue.
