worst song ever II - STOP IT RIGHT NOW

Postby Bungo the Mungo » 22 May 2011, 20:21

A couple of years ago we had a poll followed by a series of match-ups, and collectively decided that the worst song ever was that 4 Non Blondes atrocity, 'What's Up?' - I think!

I'd like to try it again as it's good fun.

Here's what I propose: you nominate songs you really dislike HERE, on this thread. Try to put forward only songs you truly despise, just to make it easier. You could accompany the song with a youtube clip if it's not especially well known. And of course heartfelt rants are welcome.

In a couple of days I'll choose songs based on the number of times they're mentioned, or on the level of vitriol the nomination is accompanied by, and start a poll. The top 16 tracks from this poll will then go forward to a series of four four-song rounds and then one final round which will determine the WORST SONG EVER!

Some example nominations from the last go-round:

Skunk Anansie - Selling Jesus
Karel Fialka - Hey Matthew
Dire Straits - Walk Of Life
Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffany's
The Beautiful South - Song For Whoever
Genesis - Invisible Touch
Shania Twain -Man! I Feel Like A Woman
Starship - We Built This City
Foo Fighters - The Best Of Me
Stevie Wonder - I Just Called To Say I Love You
Santana - Smooth
REM - Losing My Religion

Alright? Off you go!

I like quite a few of those from the old list....

Anyway, the 4 Non Blondes tripe has to be a goer, plus "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"...

What was that awful Gypsy Woman one back in the 90s by Crystal Waters? bad enough to induce vomiting.

Ebony & Ivory

Oasis - Lyla

Queen - Radio Gaga

That's all I can think of for now. And let's face it; if even I don't like them, then they MUST be shite....

I heard "Walk of Life" on the bathroom radio last nite, and realized it sounds just like some Springsteen tunes I despise. I'll have to research that since I'm not sure of titles. Is/was Knopfler the Springsteen of England?

I'll have to do some research since I'm not sure of titles.

Instead of a list, I'll submit as I think of them, starting with~

"Seasons in the Sun"

Every time we do this I post the Charlene & Stevie wonder duo that actually is the worst song ever. But since we are clearly looking for the next worse, allow me to nominate "Panic" by the Smths and "Karn Evil #9, Third Impression"

All of those ore far worse than anything Mark Knopfler could manage.

Obv Shiny Happy People.....an aberration of mammoth proportions.

Altho' I very much like the B52s, "Love Shack" is deeply irritating...but maybes I just heard it too often...

No easy targets

Apart from the eventual winner

Knocking on Heaven's Door - Guns and Roses

Hey Jude
Michelle
Something
Yesterday
Beautiful Tonight
Meat is Murder

Everything the Cranberries ever did but let's say Zombies
Moorcock, Moorcock, Michael Moorcock, you fervently moan.

I'm not sure my votes should be counted, as I have just found myself tapping my foot and singing along happily to the theme from "The Littlest Hobo" that they're using for the new Dulux adverts...

Sometimes I even embarrass myself...

I Believe I can fly - R Kelly
If it Makes you Happy - Sheryl Crow

There's something weirdly compelling about it. It's appalling but I can't hate it.
