The numbering system for UK motorways was only finalised 33 days before the M1 and its two spurs opened.

Einstein didn't call The theory of relativity the theory of relativity. Alfred Bucherer used for the first time the expression "theory of relativity" (German: Relativitätstheorie).[2][3]

Already in the 16th century, leathermakers in Holland would require from their staff to bring their night & morning piss to tan the leather. THIS LASTED UNTILL ABT 60 YEARS AGO.

There are still tanners that tan leather the old fashioned way. They claim there's no modern alternative that produces such a soft leather.

Talk about taking the piss, eh?

It's not so much that I learnt, as much as I have gained wonderful new insight from this interview I read today. This being my favourite quote from it:

Sherry Tucker wrote:There is a wonderful Freudian formulation, which is that loneliness is failed solitude. In many ways we are forgetting the intellectual and emotional value of solitude. You’re not lonely in solitude. You’re only lonely if you forget how to use solitude to replenish yourself and to learn. And you don’t want a generation that experiences solitude as loneliness. And that is something to be concerned about, because if kids feel that they need to be connected in order to be themselves, that’s quite unhealthy. They’ll always feel lonely, because the connections that they’re forming are not going to give them what they seek.
